Hi,
I guess this is the concept. Static methods are loaded during the compilation itself. So the methods already exists. Both the parent and the child static method exists in the run time environment in this case and the runtime system, uses the method of the child. Thus the parent static method is hidden.

Instance methods cannot be used to hide static methods because, instance method overriding is done during runtime, i.e. dynamic lookup. The required method of the Parent or the child is loaded at runtime dynamically. As this is not possible with static methods, instance methods cannot hide static methods.

I guess this is the difference between the hiding and overriding concepts.

Others please let me know if my thought process is correct.

Thanks,
Priya.
Thank you Krishna. That was helpful.

Hi All,
I am reading the K&B book for SCJP 5.0 certification. I would like to work out some programming problems under each section. Is there any website or set of programming assignments that I can work on to make my concepts stronger other than the K&B book problems.

Thanks,
Priya.
Hi,
I have worked in Java for roughly less than an year, some 3 years back in coding. After a gap (after my graduation), I want to reenter java job market again. I would like to know, what type of questions I can expect in a Java onsite interview (in US). Some of them asks the candidates to implement B-Trees. Can anyone provide me their inputs so that I can refresh my knowledge and concentrate accordingly as I have only a couple of days left to prepare for the interview. The interview is considering candidates who have 2 years of experience in Java. So please let me know accordingly. If this is not the right forum to post, I apologize. Please let me know where to post this type of interview related questions.

Thanks,
Priya.

Thanks a lot.

Can you please update me on the materials to look out for ?

Thanks,
Priya
Hi,
I am new to Java. I am planning to take the SCJP exam so that I can apply for jobs. I can see that the version 1.4 has many mock exams and books but for SCJP 5.0 I am not sure of the materials except the "SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide" by Katherine Sierra, Bert Bates. Please let me know if sufficient free practise exams are available and if any other materials or books can help me do a good job i.e. above 90% in the exam. I need to take the exam in less than 1 month time as my university will start in less than a month's time.

I have read (no extensive coding experience) the Khalid A. Mughal and Rolf W. Rasmussen (A Programmer's guide to Java Certification 2nd edition).

1. In this time frame, is it better to attempt for 1.4 or 1.5 ?
2. It would help me greatly if people who had attempted the exam can suggest me on time frame for preparation and the mode of preparation.
3. Can you please let me know how long it took for you to prepare for the exam version 1.4 and version 1.5 and which version is preferred as per the job market in US ?

Any help to achieve my goal is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Priya.
