Hi Sumanta,

The WAS6.1 does provide the backward compatibility with all the versions of struts, JDK & J2EE technologies that was supported by WAS5.1.

So if you are just planning the application server migration than you can just go ahead with the straight deployment of existing EAR to new server, But if you want to migrate to latest specifications than i would rather suggest an incremental approach i.e. move from struts 1.0 to struts 1.3, JDK1.4 to 1.5 & J2EE 1.2/1.3 to 1.4.

If you are looking for the highest supported versions than please have a look of the IBM WAS6.1 tech documentations.

Please let us know if need more information.

Hi Friends,

I seek your immediate help.
My project is based on J2EE1.3 specification, it uses Oracle 9i as back end, The JDK version is 1.3 (local) and 1.4 (on application server)

We have a functionality that calls an oracle stored proc and passes a big xml string into that. The destination data type defined in proc is CLOB and from front end we use
CallableStatement.setAsciiStream(1,ByteArrayInputStream,length) to set the value.

Recently, we enhanced the functionality and The length of the input xml string gets increased (crosses 32K) in some scenario.
When the length is greater than 32K, we are getting following exception:

java.sql.SQLException: Data size bigger than max size for this type
For all other instances when the length is less than 32K, The functionality works fine without an issue.

we use Oracle thin driver version 9.0.2.0.

Please let us know your thoughts asap. Your suggestion/advise would be a great help to me.

Thanks & Regards

Could you please verify if you have mail.jar and activation.jar files in WSAD's classpath?

I do have the websphere horizontal cluster (Having Two Horizontal Nodes)in my project and the websphere plug-in (to be placed on web server) itself takes the great care of load balancing (Round-Robin). I don't think you need application client installation.

Hi Guys,

I seek your valuable help with regards to the implementation of Log4j in my application.

We have two different web applications deployed on single websphere application server cluster.
both have different log4j.properties file.

Here are their listing:

Property File for application 1
---------------------------------------------
log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, ROOT

log4j.appender.ROOT=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender

log4j.appender.ROOT.File=E:\\X\\ApplicationFramework.log

log4j.appender.ROOT.MaxFileSize=500KB

log4j.appender.ROOT.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout

log4j.appender.ROOT.MaxBackupIndex=5

log4j.appender.ROOT.layout.ConversionPattern=[%d] %t %c %-5p - %m%n

Property File for application 2
---------------------------------------------
log4j.rootLogger=INFO, HELLO

log4j.appender.HELLO=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender

log4j.appender.HELLO.File=E:\\Y\\Hello.log

log4j.appender.HELLO.MaxFileSize=10MB

log4j.appender.HELLO.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout

log4j.appender.HELLO.MaxBackupIndex=5

log4j.appender.HELLO.layout.ConversionPattern=[%d] %t %c %-5p - %m%n

Problem: The log statements from Application 1 are being written to the Hello.log file.

Could you help me to figure out the problem?
Thanks in Advance!

Hi Guys,

I would need your help/suggestion to solve a problem. The requirement is to read an excel sheet and display the same (data) to an editable grid like structure on web (jsp screen).

Now this excel sheet would have 50 columns and around 100+ rows. are you guys aware of any free grid like component that we can use to hold this excel data?

Also, i have read that java excel reader API is dependent on excel version for example if i code for version x, then version y would need me to modify the api altogether.

Also, please suggest if we can embed an excel sheet on screen and allow the user to copy and paste the content from their excel doc to screen directly.

Please put your valuable comments/suggestions asap.

Thanking you guys.
