Based the two replies - can we say that compareTo() can be used with or without implementing the comparable. Correct me if i am wrong...

Thanks for the reply. regarding the first line - threads are synchronized to be thread safe - is it like " one thread cant access the hashtable when it is being accessed by other thread" - is my understanding right or is there something more to that statement??

Chap 7 states that:
Comparable has a single method : compareTo()
and
Comparator has only one method : Compare()

Pg 554 has a small code as follows:

import java.util.*; class GenreSort implements Comparator<DVDInfo> { public int compare(DVDInfo one, DVDInfo two) { return one.getGenre().[B]compareTo[/B](two.getGenre()); } }

My doubt is that is it okay to use compareTo method without implementing the comparable???

"vector and hashtable are synchronized to be thread safe" and " when we say that vector and Hashtable are synchronized,we just mean that the key methods of the class are synchronized"- can anyone explain how this works??
