I'm just in the process of evaluating different alternatives. I've not evaluated Dojo option in deep yet, so I cannot say it's not enough for fulfilling my requirements. I just want to know if there is something else prior to choose this option because it is the only one.

Hi,

I'm developing an application which needs and embedded spreadsheet. This app is to be run on the browser so I'm looking for javascript libraries which has such a widget or with easy mechanisms to build it. I've seen that Dojo has an useful widget but I've not been able to find anything else (at least open source, which, by the way, is not a strict requirement). Do you know any other alternative to consider?

Hi,

I use Hudson as the continous integration server and normally I use Eclipse in most of my projects. I use Ant to make Hudson to build the project, so I have previously written a build.xml script.

Now in some projects I'm planning to use NetBeans instead of Eclipse. I found that one of the interesting features is that it automatically builds the ant script. My idea was to use this automatic generated script as the one used by Hudson to build the project, but the problem is that the generated script has dependencies to the NetBeans IDE itself. To solve the problem I can think of several options:

1) Readapt the build.xml by hand to fix the dependencies (but then, there is no big advantage to write the scripts as I used to do).

2) Copy the NetBeans installation in the server where Hudson lives. I don't like it much because I think it is not a "nice" solution and I think is not a very stable solution (what happens when the IDE updates in the developers machines, for example?).

Has anyone found this problem before? Anny suggestions?

Hi,

In March 2008 - Second Edition on page 843

Your web application has a valid deployment descriptor in which student and sensei are the only security rolres that have been defined. The deployment descriptor contains two security constraints that declare the same resource to be constrained. the frist security constraint contains:

<auth-constraint>
<role-name>student</role-name>
</auth-constraint>

and the second:

<auth-constrint />

The books says that the right answer is this:

If the second <auth-constraint> tag is removed, the constrained resource can be accessed by both roles.

but I think it is wrong and that the right one is this:

If the second <auth-constraint> tag is removed, the constrained resource can be accessed only by student users.

What do you think?

Hi,

Since URL rewriting is normally used as the fallback when cookies are not available, I was wondering if the URL support is required to any J2EE compilant container.

Hi guys,

I'm having problems with this question:

Given a JSP page with the line:

<jsp:useBean id="cust" type="test.beans.CustomerBean" scope="session" />

Which two occur?

the preparation exam gives these two valid answers:

A
A CustomerBean instance is created if the attribute name cust is not found.

B
The session is searched for a CustomerBean stored as the attribute name cust.

As far as I know, A cannot be true because when not using class attribute in useBean tag, if the beans is not preinstantiated, the JSP NEVER tries to instantiate one. Am I missing some thing or this is definitively wrong?

Hi,

I've worked with Hibernate for some projects but I haven't used much more than the basic mappings and queries. However I have some deep knowledge of database tunning and looking at the table of contents of the book, you could think of SQL and database book.

My question is the following. Many of the concepts and optimizations map directly in DBMS and "normal" SQL optimizations. Hibernate tries to be an abstraction of the DBMS but I was wondering how clever it is to take advantage of the native (and different) DBMS and SQL dialects. Will I have to keep profiling the queries generated by the ORM to achieve high performance or can I trust Hibernate?

Hi,

I documented every single method (even when it was copy & paste from an overriden or implemented method) and package. Not sure if it was a requirement but I got maximum grade at the doc section.

Hi,

My design was very similar to yours and I passed with maximum grade in all the sections (except GUI design). I did not use the proxy class but I constructed my own implementation to build this adapter. The adapter caught the RemoteExceptions and wrapped them into a not checked exception build by me which were launched if it had sense. This way the adapter could implement the same interface than the local implementation but the "remote" exceptions were not lost. I documented this solution in detail and the Sun examiners seemed to be happy about it.

I'm happy about that. Just 2 weeks and a half...

Thank you!

I'm from Barcelona, Spain.

Well I had this confidence long time ago (some years in the IT industry now and I've designed some apps from scratch to production with more complex technologies and requirements involved) but I suppose that the SCJD can prove it to others

I'm happy! Toda I've received the Sun e-mail confirming that I've passed the SCJD. It was B&S 2.3.3 and these are my numbers:

General Considerations (maximum = 100): 90
Documentation (maximum = 70): 70
O-O Design (maximum = 30): 30
GUI (maximum = 40): 29
Locking (maximum = 80): 80
Data store (maximum = 40): 40
Network server (maximum = 40): 40

I'm quite happy about the results. I don't really know why they were not happy about my GUI (ok, I'm not an artist or a designer but the GUI was quite complete, I think: all the actions had buttons, key shortcuts, menuitems, the help was oneline within the program and I think it was nice enough ;-)). I don't know either why I got a 90 in the "General Considerations" section when I got the maximum in the other ones...

Well, I don't really mind, I'm happy.

Next target: SCWCD (perhaps in a month).

Thank all you for your support and help while preparing the SCJD!

Can you post the full error stack?

Hi,

I had a similar situation and doubt but I did not get any satisfactory answer, so I decided to copy & paste the javadocs just in case... I didn't want to get an automatic failure because of this.
