Hi All,
To add to the previous reply, the mistake was that I was using <html:submit.../> which submits the form when the button is clicked. Additionally, I was using the onclick property to call a javascript function which contained the code

document.form.submit();

So, the request was being submitted twice.

Using <html:button.../> does not submit the form on clicking the button. Instead, we have to use document.form.submit(); to submit it.

Thanks..

Thanks to all for your inputs..

I found out the cause of this. In my jsp, I was using

<html:submit ...................../> earlier which was causing the problem.

I changed the above to

<html:button...................../> which resolved the problem.

On clicking the button, a javascript function is invoked.

Thanks again..

Hi,
I am facing a peculiar problem in my web application. Whenever I click on a button in a jsp, the web container is invoking the servlet filter twice. The entire flow is thus, getting executed twice. The action to be performed is insert a row in a table in database.

Due to the above problem, each time I submit a form, instead of one entry, two entries are made in the database table.

Have you faced such a problem ?
Your advice/insight is appreciated.

Thanks in advance..

Hi,
I am developing a small tool which reads certain paragraphs of text(which occupy more than one display window)from log files present in a remote unix server. When the user enters a search string into a textfield and clicks a button, it fetches the data into a string again and again and needs to add it directly to the textpane and the textpane needs to be set to visible for the user i.e. it must appear when the user clicks the button.
Please advise how to continuously add text directly to the textpane. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance..

Hi all,
I need to search large log files present in a remote unix server. I know that I can use SFTP APIs like Jcraft's jsch api to connect to the remote server but then copying those log files to my local machine would not be a good idea since each of them is at least 500 MB in size.
I need to search through 5 or 6 such log files based on the search string input by the user and then copy relevant search data and display it to the user.
Since, the log files are too big in size, I am thinking of the possibility of running a shell script in the remote server that can do the task of searching and displaying relevant results, through my java program.
As of now, this process is done manually through the Putty client and I need to automate it.
Is there a better way of achieving what I need to do?

Please advise.
Thanks in advance..
Hi Aniruddh,
Actually, I am not replying to your question.
The point is I too need to develop a tool that does similar kind of processing as you need to. Pleae tell where did you download the SFTP API from ?
And, where can I get all other related API like FTP, SSH etc.

Anybody who knows this, please reply....

Thanks..

Hi Martijn,
I tried to download the src and bin zip files from different mirrors. The bin file got downloaded but the src file isn't getting downloaded.

Thanks..
Hi,
I know that there is APACHE POI (HWPF) for reading from and writing to Microsoft Word Document but its download from the POI website is failing. I tried this a lot of times but without success.
Has somebody got the HWPF jar ? If yes, then please mail it to me at sivapraveen.chandana@tcs.com

Thanks in advance..

Also would like to know if you have used any other way in Java (other than HWPF) to write to a Word Document ?

Thanks....
Hi everybody,
I am developing a small tool which has a UI built on Swings. Based on the user input, I am doing the processing in a different class. This class has the main method from where I am invoking....

javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
ExcelGeneratorUI.createAndShowGUI();
}
});

After that, I am doing the remaining processing.

The problem is that when I run this class with the main() method ((this class has to process the data entered by the user through the UI)), it is displaying the UI but not waiting until the user enters data and presses "submit" button.

In a nutshell, I want the main() method to proceed further only when the user has clicked on the "submit" button.

Please advise how to do this. Please provide an example.

Thanks in advance....

Hi everybody,
Please advise how to place components (labels, text fields and buttons) in an orderly manner. I am developing a small tool with a simple UI with just labels, text fields and a button but I am not getting the alignment right.

I need a simple design as following :-

Label1 TextField1
Label2 TextField2
Label3 TextField3
Label4 TextField4

and so on and one single button at the bottom center of the screen.

Please provide sample code for the following. Presently, I am able to create the UI but the alignment is not right.

Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
Please tell how to download the apache poi library for modifying MS Word documents (HWPF) ?

Thanks and regards....
Hi everyone,
I have cleared SCJP (310-055) with 95% but I did not have much programming practice. Can you please share some assignments for which I can write Java programs such that they cover all the commonly used APIs such as I/O, collections, generics, multithreading, files etc. I am asking because there is a coding competition in core java coming up in my company, so I need good practice for preparing myself for it.

Thanks in advance....

Thanks
Martijn, Joanne and Jelle for your suggestions.

I want to make my requirement more clear.

I need to search through *.log files located in the file system of a server. So, I need to make a connection to the server first. Then, after copying the data relevant to a particular search string taken as input from the user I need to paste it into a Microsoft WORD document(*.doc)
Hopefully, now you understand my requirement better.
Please suggest the APIs I must be using. For searching, I may use REGEX and for user interface, I may use SWINGS. But, what do I use for copying the data from *.log files and pasting it into Microsoft WORD document(*.doc) ? Also, please suggest if there is some easier way to do it(I mean, by using some other API than the ones I mentioned?

And, I need to use JAVA to develop this tool.

Hi everyone,
I am working in a software firm (less than 1 year experience) and I need to develop a tool/stand-alone application which needs to search some log files located in the file system of a server based on search strings taken as input from the user and then copy the data(length of it may vary) related to that search string and paste it into a word document.
I am planning to use Swings for designing the user interface.
The above is the basic outline of my requirement.

Please suggest what features of core Java I should be using to accomplish this. I have done SCJP and SCWCD but I am new to tool development.

Please share your advice.

Thanks in advance....

public final void flipper(){System.out.println("Clidlet"); }
public static void main(String [] args) {
Clidder c = new Clidlet();
c.flipper();
}
}

thanks in advance..
