Sometimes when you know you're done with the object, just set it to null. But still there is no guarantee that anything will force gc.

JSP
I designing a form that has several drop down lists. When you select an item on a drop down list, the contents of another has to be dynamically generated with an sql statement where the value of the first drop down list is part of the where clause.
Some IDE's have this build in, but i'm just using a vi editor.
Any advice, sample code, links ?
Thanks in advance.

When is it really necessary to use EJB's in J2EE applications? I write some in-house applications and only use JSP and Servlets.
Thanks for all the advice ! and congrats for the awesome score. I'll be taking the test next month or two and hopefully i'll post some good news soon.
How did you get a copy of weblogic ? If it's an evaluation copy, it will expire in 30 days. I would learn off of tomcat 4.0. Tomcat up to date with the latest jsp and servlet versions and it's free. Plus the documentation is good enough to get you goin.

I also read the book and at borders and it does have a lot of C++ code. Can anyone recommend a book that focuses on Java ?
After you sign and send that agreement, they will email you your username, password and a link to a site where you could download the logo.
About the useless pins, i absolutely agree. Pins are cool, but what you really need is a business type card you could carry around with you. I have an oracle cert and they come with a business card that i bring with me to interviews. When i got my SCJP i was surprised to not receive one but oh well. Next, SCWCD .....
if that is a cut and past of your code, this line makes the xml document not well formed:
<param-vlue>MyFile</param-value>
value is spelled "vlue"
Did anyone try regular xml documents on netscape 6.1 ? Netscape 6.1 is suppose to support xml, right ? I tried some of examples from an authors website and it doesn't look right.
Sun says you have to wait 2 weeks.
Good Luck !
Congrats Ken !!! that's so awesome. You mentioned that you were going to modify your notes after taking the exam, do still plan on doing so ? Are you going to add some stuff you think we should know after taking the test ? Plus, you also mentioned you purchased the 50 practice questions and thought it's a good representation, but would you advise others to purchase them as well ?
So should pay for the practice exams or wait for some mock tests ? hint, hint
I think your notes are great and i'm sure you been a great help to many ... congrats again.

PL/SQL is native to oracle so it is faster. Oracle is one of the biggest supporters of java and will make it faster (my friend at oracle is working on that as i write this). But what i don't like about calling pl/sql procedures with a callable statement, is it's harder to debug, harder to maintain, and your application just became vendor specific. If you switch databases, then normally all you have to do is change parameters for the JDBC call. What also sucks is when new logic has to be implemented, testing and debugging becomes even more of a pain.
I would use PL/SQL if i where a DBA or an application developer using oracle forms and reports.
