OS/RDBMS Version*( required for Tools Forums): Oracle 10.2.0.4

Application type and version:

Description of the Problem/Question:

Customer currently testing a process which exposes XML publisher functionality via self service. The process calls an app engine which
generates an XML file, processed by XML Publisher, and then displayed in the browser window.

They have found that any more than ten or so users in our test environment (two app servers, one web server per app server) seems to slow
the process to a halt, even causing some requests to go unprocessed. The bottleneck seems to be at the web server (WebLogic) as the
database and app server performance metrics are very good, however PeopleSoft Ping suggests that the web server is having trouble.

production environment has 8 app servers, one web server per app server. Are there any configuration changes we can make to improve
the serving of PDFs from XML publisher output? Add more web servers per app server? WebLogic java VM heap settings?

WebLogic Server 8.1 SP5

Tuxedo: Version 8.1, 64-bit, Patch Level 192

Any other thoughts on performance degrade with XML Publisher with more than 10 users.

Are there any configuration changes we can make to improve the serving of PDFs from XML publisher output? Add more web servers per app server?

Thanks

Description of the Problem/Question:

Here is the error message we are seeing in the extended logging on the webserver. We can replicate in our test
environment and this log is from the test region. It throws an error 500, ISAPI error to the user.
Here are the log entries from wlacess.log on cssna105. I tried to search for the root cause without any success.
At some point, some one was saying to set the KeepAlive value to off. It is recommended to set to ON in performance guide.
Ct claims, small size of the messaging is getting through and some with larger size is getting this errors.

Hi There.

Customer have configured 2 Webservers-PIA1 and PIA2 on 2 VMs(Host)-server 01 and server 02 behind Load Balancer BIG IP.
Both the Webservers connect to a single Application server hosted on a seperate Machine-03 and Database server is
hosted on a seperate server.

Installed/configured PIA1 as Multi server Domain on server 01 with Admin Console and installed/configured PIA2 as
Managed Server Domain(Managed by server 01-Admin Server).
Node Manager running on both machines to remote start/stop Managed Servers-PIA1 and PIA2.

Also configured to loadbalance IB Gateway across the above mentioned PIA1 and PIA2 webservers.

Ct would like to know Is there a way where they could simplify maintenance when they Implement Load Balancing. Now the ct
customized website/webserver files and pushed all those customization on the 2 machines-server 01 and server02
where the 2 webservers and relative website has been hosted.

Looking for a solution where they can share/centralize customizations/webserver/configuration files/etc between
these 2 webservers so that maintenance/future upgrades are made easy and also attain load balancing and failover.
Is there a way to attain this? thoughts...thanks

I believe the answer is no, where you can not share /centralize the files(customizations/webserver/configuration files), but wanted to confirm.

Weblogic 8.1SP6

Hi Cameron.
Yes i do see this recursively happening on the log file and then the WLS crashes.
what could be the cause for it..is it at the WLS level or OS level for AIX?

Thanks

HI ALL.

while installing PIA, ct is getting the below error:

check_if_deploy_ear:

deployearfile:
Skipped because property 'DEPLOYEAR' not set.
[antcall] Exiting /tmp/psoft_jarexpander.xml.

Also in the install log for PIA there are below erros:

Installer JAR archive is not embedded.
Run time Java arguments are not specified.
Need to be root.

Have attached the PIA install log for your reference (below).

For above PIA install errors found few solution in metalink suggesting that DISPLAY variable needs to be set.

Please note that the ct ran the setup only after setting the DISPLAY variable using below cmd
export DISPLAY=<localhost>:0.0

notes:
WLS went down, checked and all of the web servers went down almost at the same time and gave Jrockit

no problem.

Any thoughts...

Customer have enabled "Send Server Header" in the WebLogic Console (9.2) - and according to documentation -
"Indicates whether this server instance includes its name and WebLogic Server version number in HTTP response headers."

They are not seeing server name in response header - only version.

Ct require the server name in order to monitor web traffic.

Sample Response Header:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Tue, 17 Mar 2009 14:37:31 GMT
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Server: WebLogic Server Temporary Patch 2 for PeopleSoft CR325828 Thu Sep 06 16:41:36 IST 2007 WebLogic Server 9.2 MP1 Sun Jan 7 00:56:31 EST 2007 883308

Any thoughts on how to get the Server name!
Thanks

I am having a problem deploying a PIA on PeopleTools 8.45.18 on Solaris 8 using WebLogic 8.1 sp 3. The error I experience is java.lang.NullPointerException when I run this command:

./setup.solaris -console -is:log /var/temp/piainstall.log

Hi All.
I have an issue with weblogic GC, which is not happening frequently where its all the way up at 90% and releasing a few % and then finally
the WLS crashes with 0% free. that is out of memory error.

on AIX 5.3 and running Weblogic 81 sp6, jre142_SR7 and i did ask them to turn on verbose gc and this is part of the stderr.log file:

Did set their ulimit (setenv.sh) to be :

1. Skipping JDK Check for current PeopleTools release.
2. At this time PeopleTools only requires a JDK. This may change.

1. Grab some file descriptors.

oh, one more thing their setting is, right now the jave heap is set to 1gb(min and max), used to be 2gb(min and max) and still weblogic crashed :

JAVA_OPTIONS_AIX="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m"

env setup:
big-ip load balancer , 2 proxy servers, 5 web servers, 2 content servers and 5 application server domains

initial error :

PIA_weblogic.log:####<Feb 27, 2009 10:50:24 AM CST> <Emergency> <WebLogicServer> <ma1ua275> <PIA> <ListenThread.Default> <<WLS Kernel>> <BEA-000209> <ListenThread.run() failed: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
PIA_weblogic.log:java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

min and max heap size is 1024mb and this server has 16Gb of RAM.

Any thoughts...>

Hi There.
Customer installed the WLDF for WL92 on MP3, and PTools 849.16, and on Java 1.5.16.
Customer followed the instruction in Doc ID #662595.1 from peoplesoft support site, The WLDF does not work.
See attached screen shot. It appears that the WLDF is compress so the entire screen can not be seen.

customer can not see built-in views that are available on the WLDF console tab:
-To view heap usage, choose 'JVM Runtime view'
-To view thread usage, choose 'Thread pool runtime view'

Any thoughts towards this WLDF Console view, where the page is not showing the dashboard data?

Thanks
Thaya

Solution followed to setup:

Document:662595.1 - E-WL: WebLogic 9.2: How to monitor WebLogic performance via graphs

SPECIFIC TO: WebLogic 9.2

ISSUE:
WebLogic 8.1 had a console feature which allowed for viewing graphs of WebLogic memory usage, thread usage, etc. Is this capability available with WebLogic 9.2?

SOLUTION:

WebLogic 9.2 console is not installed with graphing capabilities for monitoring performance. Note that you can still monitor performance by navigating to Environment->Servers->PIA from left menu bar and then choosing Monitoring. But this will show you only the current values for heap and threads.

However, WebLogic 9.2 is delivered with a product called WebLogic Diagnostic Framework Console (WLDF) that provides graphing capabilities. So if you want to be able to view graphs, you will need to install the WLDF extension. Below is additional information on how to install the WLDF extension.

How to install and use WebLogic Diagnostic Framework Console:
=============================================================
1. Install WLDF as follows:
a. Find the diagnostics-console-extension.jar file in the WL_HOME/server/lib/console-ext directory, where WL_HOME is the directory in which you installed WebLogic Server.
b. Create a folder, called console-ext in <PS_HOME>/webserv/<DOMAIN_NAME>
c. Copy diagnostics-console-extension.jar, from step 1a, into the <PS_HOME>/webserv/<DOMAIN_NAME>/console-ext directory
d. Restart the WebLogic Admin server for the domain where you installed the extension. The Administration Console for the domain is then deployed with the WLDF Console Extension.
2. Use WLDF as follows:
a. Log into the WebLogic Console
b. Click tab 'WLDF Console Extension'
c. You will see many built-in views that are available:
-To view heap usage, choose 'JVM Runtime view'
-To view thread usage, choose 'Thread pool runtime view'
WLDF provides the ability to create custom views, but any questions/issues regarding WLDF views is considered outside the scope of GSC support.

Note that the above information is from the following BEA links. So if you'd like additional details on using WLDF, please refer to these links

the initial installation. Install the app server and Tuxedo (required by the app server) and the PIA installation will succeed.
-Same PSOFT userid is used to install WLS and PIA.

still PIA install fails, any thoughts...
