An application exception may be a subclass (direct or indirect) of java.lang.Exception (i.e., a checked exception), or an application exception class may be defined as a subclass of the java.lang.RuntimeException (an unchecked exception). An application exception may not be a subclass of the java.rmi.RemoteException. The java.rmi.RemoteException and its subclasses are reserved for system exceptions.

Both are different..
One will notify the object(itself) when it is bound or unbound from session.
The other one will notify you when an attribute gets added/removed/replaced.

I guess you can give your URL-PATTERN Which you gave in SERVLET-MAPPING.
For ex: If /servletToJsp is the url-pattern in my servlet mapping to my actual servlet
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>/servletToJsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
Thanks!

I was told by a friend that it is just mapping. for example they will give JSP implicit objects one side and related classes other side. You need to drag the option from left side and drop it on right hand side matching option.
Thanks!
