Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way we can debug or do something to confirm it?

Hello,

I had an interesting discussion with one of my colleague today. I was sure that variable gets stored in stack, and by variable I mean the name of the variable or identifier to be precise. The variable's value however depends on type and scope of the variable. On the other hand my colleague says that variable name or identifier gets stored on perm gen or class metadata. Well now I had no idea what perm gen or class metadata is and where does it gets stored. Can some one help me to understand this ?

i would take the OCA, but I am undecided about which book to buy. So i'm not new in java, but i I do not know it very well. So I would start from the bases.
I'm torn about two book's: This one or this one

And, There is a book with exam simulations?

Hi Fabio,

If you are preparing for certification I would suggest you leave the second book and take a certification book instead. The first link for the book is not working so I couldn't comment on that. There are certification books for OCA like this which are targeted for the certification exams. complete one book throughly and then take mock tests, enthuware mock tests are best for preparation. Once you complete that assess your progress and take the exam.

Best of luck for your preparation.

Thanks Roel,

In this post you can read the advice I always provide regarding the Enthuware mock exams. If you are using Enthuware mock exams (or any other mock exams), it might be very useful to read this thread as well. So you don't make the mistake of rushing through all the mock exams (or going through the object-wise tests first). The difference between standard and objective-wise tests is well-explained here. And here you'll find some valuable information about how to prepare for the exam using Enthuware tests. Here you'll find another post with similar advice and another bunch of useful links. If you are from India, it seems you can purchase a package offer which includes exam voucher, free retake and 30-day access to Kaplan tests.

With the above advice I take that I should complete the study from books and material and then only I should take tests, is my understanding correct?

Thanks & Regards

Hello All,

I am preparing for OCA and OCP 8. I have OCA/OCP Java SE 7 Programmer I & II Study Guide by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. I have couple of question regarding the preparation -

  • Is it good idea to use above mentioned book for preparing for OCA-8 & OCP-8 ? Can I prepare for both the exams from the same book and later cover the delta part of Java 8 from other sources? If yes what sources do you recommend. If no should I purchase a different set of book for the exam?

  • I have completed couple of chapters from the above mentioned book and done with the questions of those chapters. Is it a good idea to invest in enthuware exam kit and start doing objective wise mock test from now itself or should I wait to complete the course (Book) and then buy the exam kit. I will buy the exam kit anyways but the question is should I start using it from the beginning as supplementary material?

  • Thanks & Regards
    Hi guys,

I have doubt as per my knowledge interfaces can have constants which are direct values, so it should be in the stack. Please correct if I am wrong here.

Why would this print 90? Wouldn't expression within brackets(x=y) have precedence over *?

Hi chintan, printf statement evaluates from left to right, hence first value of x is 9 and after assignment x is 10 hence answer is 90.

Hey From Where this printf came here..?? I think It was println().
