Hi there,

I need your help & here is my requirement.

1. Read RTF file
2. Find PlaceHolder i.e. {REPLACE_ME} and replace it with some text " I AM REPLACED ".
3. Save RTF back to File System.

I looked into Apache POI but it seems it supports only DOC and DOCX. Can anyone advise how this can be achieved?

Thanks - Hitesh

This program does basic string expression evaluation without using any of its relevant java in-build functions.

Sorry Fred I meant to say any in-build function that allows conversation from string to int or float.
Thanks for pointing it out.

I forget to add that a program should not use any in-build java function.

Hi there,

I am looking for some advise.

I am someone who has 12+ years professional experience in Web Development.
Last year I decided to migrate from ColdFusion/Oracle platform to Java(SE/EE)/Oracle Platform. Part of my efforts I am now SCJP and SCWCD certified.

Now I like to know what is the current & most popular trend in Java Web Development line? Should I go ahead and learn Spring MVC & Hibernet?

If that's the case can someone please advise what are the most popular and useful books for:
1) Java Web Development using Spring MVC
2) Hibernet in Java etc...

If you have any other idea apart from what I asked then most welcome! I really want to move forward and adopt right things on Java Technology.

Thanks in advance.

On 15th August, 2013 I have passed the SCWCD certification as well. Its more information is here: https://coderanch.com/t/618140/java-programmer-SCJP/certification/SCWCD-Java-EE-Certification-Journey

Towards my Java skills development this was my 2nd certification I gave on 15th August, 2013. It is known as Java EE 5 Web Component Developer Certified Professional Exam.

1) My Java background:
- 0 years of professional experience in Java EE.
- SCJP 6 : Java SE 6 Certified Programmer in December 2012.

2) Exam Score:
- 85%

3) Planning:
- I put an entire plan on paper i.e. Exam Date, No. of Books to go through, Study hours etc... and stuck it on my study room wall.

4) Resources:
I highly recommend to go through only below books.
I) Head First Servlets and JSP, Second Edition by Bryam, Kathy & Bert. This was my primary source of reading. Extremely happy with this book. I had its hard copy.
II) SCWCD Study Guide. I have only used to go its practice exam questions. Its e-Book is FREE on internet.

5) Execution:
- I started my Head First book reading on 1st of April.
- I work in the Sydney CBD and its 40 minutes travel by train. I use this time to read the book. I did it for 2.5 months.
- For 2 weeks from Mid June to end of June I have gone through SCWCD Study Guide practice exam questions.
- Entire July I was making small program samples in Eclipse for proof of concept.
- From 1st Aug to 14th Aug I started my revision of Head Fist book.

That's ALL.

6) Personal notes:
- Actual exam is not as hard as given in the books so please don't dishearten if you get low score in book exam. But still aim to score higher becuase sound preparation will help you to get more in REAL exam.
- If you have some experience in either Java SE or Java EE then I don't recommend any external training.
- You can read about my SCJP certification here https://coderanch.com/t/601236/java-programmer-SCJP/certification/OCP-Java-SE-Certficate-Journey

If anybody needs some further help please let me know.

Hi Guys,

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

I tested the same code on my work computer but this time I kept file name as "readMe.txt" instead of "readME.txt".
It worked straight away.

Then I thought this is not OK since file name can be any so I made it "HITESH.txt" and it was still working.

This is weird but came to conclusion that Tomcat does not like "readME.txt" but "readMe.txt" is fine.

JSP
Hi there,

I am getting an error trying to resolve but could not. Please help if you can.

1. Text file is located under /WEB-INF/readME.txt

2. Here is the JSP file that trying to read text file but INPUTSTREAM object always returns NULL.

As you can see I have tried to use INPUTSTREAM object in 2 different ways using CONTEXT and using CLASSLOADER but it does not work either.

Looking forward to getting someone's reply.

JSP
Hi there,

This is the objective: "How to invoke another servlet's GET method from current servlet?"

Scenario
When login.jsp is submitted it calls the LoginServet servlet (form action). If login is OK then I need to redirect to user list page.

And user list page needs to have data-grid populated so instead of redirecting on userlist.jsp I call the UserServlet?action=list from LoginServlet.
But rather it calls the UserServet's POST method instead of GET method.

LoginServlet

And UserServlet's POST method has logic of add/modify user so every time I login it just creates new record in the user table with entered username/password.

UserServlet

So can I get some help how to call GET method of UserServlet?

Looking forward to getting answers.

Hitesh

Hi there,

I wanted to move fully into Java EE + Oracle platform from ColdFusion + Oracle/SQL Server.
I have 11+ years experience in Web Application Development. At major, I have been using ColdFusion since 11 years + SQL Server (10 years) + Oracle DB & PL/SQL (1.5 yrs) etc...

Part of my journey on 27th Dec, 2012 I passed my OCP Java SE 6 Certification with 81%.
I know my ultimate goal is to learn and use : Java EE + Hibernet + ANT + Any framework (Spring MVC / Struts / JSF etc..). Once I know about these things then I like to approach Java jobs.

Now the biggest question is : What is next? How to proceed? Confused mind?

Can I have some advise from your JAVA's professional experience? Would you please assist me showing WAY?

1) I should go for which framework? Spring MVC / Structs / JSF or any other.

2) What is the best book to learn Java EE + Hibernet + Whatever Framework you recommend?

3) Are there any online resource for Java EE + Hibernet along with video, code samples etc....?

Kindly give me some advise.
Believe me, your input means a lot to me. I will make most out of it.

Looking forward to getting your answers.
