i did thanks
i've used graphics 2d to rotate the text but now i have encountered a second problem. i rotate the graphics to draw the tilted text

however r.x and r.y are x,y values in a Rectangle prior to rotating the graphics. I want to place the text exactly at that point but not the point that has been rotated, is there a mathematical formula to go back to the original point? i hope someone understands something from this because my english isnt so good

thanks for your reply..
let me get this straight:
as i understand it graphics2d will enable me to draw lines, points etc on an area with double precision
is that right?
(i dont HAVE to use a canvas but i really want precise positioning of the things i draw.. it's for a mapview)

Is it possible to have double precision for the x,y coords of a canvas? And how would that be possible? So far i havent found anything on this subject.
thanks

Thank you i will try that.
One more thing:
I am also trying to run an external program using the JNI.
I tried to use the HelloWorld example they have here the problem is that i'm using Linux and this tutorial has Solaris and Windows examples of what to write to create a shared library.
What is required in linux to create such a library?
thank you

Apart from using Runnable.exec to execute external programs, is it possible to use something like a system call to run it?
Is JNI the only other way?
thanks

is there a way to run C++ programs from a Java application?
how can that be possible?

Ok i'm quite new to Java so i'll try to explain my problem as well as I can
I have a Producer thread and a Consumer thread.. Both of them are started using .start() in the main method.
On the other hand I have a GUI which has two buttons. One of them must be used to increment the shared variable and the other one to decrement it.
I'm looking for a way to make these threads execute when pressing the corresponding button. I tried making them wait() just when they enter the run() method but then when I notify() them (this is done in another class) i get the IllegalMonitor blah blah exception..
Is there any other wise way to do what i'm trying to achieve? The only thing is that it MUST be done with threads.
Anyone remember their first steps in threading? Help!
Does anyone else have a problem viewing .gif or .jpg images on a JButton using forte 3.0 ?
i run the same code using the command line and i get to see the pics so there's no problem with my code
ideas?
