This is quite a simple one, how did you start to learn java? and how did you get where you are today? what advice would you give to a greenhorn just starting out in java?

I have a degree in business and IT and was wondering if this is enough to get a job as a java developer as I am self-teaching myself the trade. Or will companies want actual certificates saying I am trained in java, or does my degree supercede those certificates?

I really cant feel a person can really love programming in java, as Java is definitely not an hacker language it is business language like cobol.... Frankly tell me what inspiration you achieve by troubleshooting a issue of Java connecting to mainframe, or generating a report in CSV format???: ,

of-course its for money, but I don't seriously think that you would be happy to be enterprise programmer in Java, I never heard anybody lured into computer science cause they found a passion of for Cobol.

Very few hackers are there in Java, frankly i feel programming in Java killed the passion of hacker in me!!!,

as far as I am concerned being a chemist is better than being a enterprise java developer

I dont understand your point, If he is happy being a Java developer, just as i would be, then who are you to say he made the wrong decision? thats like saying its wrong that he can be happy? If i had the choice of being a chemist or Java developer i would certainly choose Java developer, however that isnt the point, the point is you should'nt dictate to people what can and cannot make them happy.

Do you really find Java programming more interesting than chemistry............my god.......

Why is this unbelievable? I have just finished a degree in business and IT and I find java programming far more interesting than everything I studied, I can't wait to be a pro programmer, I love it!

Thanks also for your comments Mr Dennis Grimbergen you have seriously inspired me

Is there anything modified to save?

Not as far as I am aware, all I done was went to file>new>java project>add source>name the source (i name mine anything I want, is this allowed?) (then it creates default package) and gives me the blank script to start briting code on, then i write code and i cant save anything
Can someone help me for some reason i can not save any of my files on eclipse the save button is grey and not active it looks like this

I have only just downloaded eclipse and to my knowledge have not changed any settings
i went into the source file like cambell said (thankyou) and from there you can open them in eclipse, thanks alot. One other question is not all of my projects have the file in source does this mean i didnt save it properly or something? because sometimes when i went to file the save button was grey (wouldnt let me save) even though i had written quite alot of stuff

when i look through my files the normal way (not through eclipse) i see .settings, bin, src, .classpath and .project, but when i go into source most of them having nothing there, but the first one i made has the .java file which can be opened and you see the code,
This is a very very basic question but i saved a couple of small projects in eclipse and i want to open them as java programmes again so i can add to the coding etc, but I do not know how to, i tried going file>open file but it just shows two files that say .classpath and .project and when i open them it comes up with a load of files like project name, description, comment etc. How do i open a file so it shows the code like when you writing a project?
I have been looking for a junior java developer role and all companies want some kind of experience, be it commercial or a computer science degree. I have a degree in Business and IT and was wondering through self study do you think its possible I can get to the desired level an emplyer is looking for, or would i need to take official classes and gain more qualifications etc?
