Hi Ian,
For the textarea, u can set the size using setPreferredSize.. u that u need not have to instantiate textarea with some text...
If you are using BorderLayout, put the entire app in the center..
If you want you GUI to appear in the center of th e window, then use the following code :
JDialog d = new JDialog();
Dimension size = d.getToolkit().getScreenSize();
setLocation((size.width - 750) / 2, (size.height - 500) / 2);
Hope this helps you,

hi,
I got the solution. Iam using jdk1.4 and j2ee1.3.1. I changed the initial context factory to com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory and protocol to iiop. It works for Session bean.
But I have one more problem. Now i am trying out Entity bean for which database is needed. I am using the existing one(Cloudscape) in J2ee.
Now i need to use Entity bean in client, do i need to connect to database and then do lookup.
and what does "java:comp/env/jdbc/Cloudscape" means?
Please help me. I need it urgently

Hi,
I am new to JNDI. I am working on EJB stateless session.
I am using J2EE as EJB Server. When i try to run the client side program in different machime
it gives me the following exception :
javax.naming.CommunicationException: Request: 1 cancelled
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapRequest.getReplyBer(LdapRequest.java:47)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.Connection.readReply(Connection.java:396)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapClient.ldapBind(LdapClient.java:315)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapClient.authenticate(LdapClient.java:146)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtx.connect(LdapCtx.java:2516)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtx.<init>(LdapCtx.java:263)
at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory.getInitialContext(LdapCtxFactory.java:76)

at javax.naming.InitialContext.init(InitialContext.java:219)
at javax.naming.InitialContext.<init>(InitialContext.java:195)
at HelloClient.main(HelloClient.java:40)

But if i run it in same machine where the J2EE server is, it works fine.
This exception is raise when i create an instance of Context class.

I am setting the initial context factory to com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory and
provide url to ldap://mymachinename ort as follows :

/*
* Get System properties for ?JNDI initialisation
*/
Properties props = System.getProperties();

/*
* Set the inital context factory
*/
props.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");

/*
* Set the provider url
*/
props.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"ldap://itws2:1050";);
/*
* Form an initial context
*/
Context ctx = new InitialContext(props);

Can anyone help me it is urgent

hi,
how would i know which version of HTTP I am using.Is there any method which specific the HTTP version? As u mentioned using higher version of Jdk i.e., 1.4 I can have HTTP1.1. But when
I mention HTTP/1.1 the server responsed as "server cannot under the request sent by the HTTP1.1 client and the hostname is missing. I had pass the Host header along with the request. I am using JDK1.4.
thanks in advance,

hi,
Thanks for replying. In java.sun.com site, i read that HTTP1.0 by default has Connection : close which can be made presistance connection using Keep-Alive and HTTP1.1 by default has Connection : keep-alive.
According to ur reply,HTTP1.0 closes the connection after each request and keep-alive cannot be used in it.
Can u tell be how to upgrade HTTP1.0 to HTTP1.1?I need to keep connection presistant until client says explicitly to close.
It would be very helpful if reply it soon.
Thanks,

hi,
I want to know, how to keep the connection alive after sending the first request. i used the following stmt
setRequestProperty("Connection","Keep-Alive"). but still the connection is closed after first request . Iam using HTTP/1.0.
Can anyone tell me a way to keep connection alive until I specify it to close?

Using URL, we establish connection with a server to particular file. Is there any method in HttpURLConnection or URLConnection where u can specify the file to access rather than specifying the file name at the time of connection.So that I can make multiple request to access different file each time.
I need it urgently .
Thanks in advance,
