Background: I'm setting up a local copy of an existing app because i need to do some modifications on it. Its a jsp site with a postgres backend. I checked the live setup and it was kind of weird for me( likely due to my lack of knowledge). I noticed that the tomcat setup there did not have any war file and has no application on webapps folder and I noticed that the ROOT.xml was modified.
the ROOT.xml was modified:
<Context docBase="/home/tomcat/app">
and so the docbase was change to a different directory. I was wondering what implications this would have?

Secondly I noticed that the tomcat i downloaded did not have a <tomcat-dir>/conf/Catalina/localhost directory; and then if I used aptitude or yum tomcat is thrown all over the place. part is in /etc and some are in /usr/shared and some in /var. I opt to manually download the tomcat and extract. On ubuntu the Catalina/localhost is on /etc/tomcat6/Catalina. So concerning this, I wish to verify what Catalina is used for and if this is the same directory as Catalina home.

I'm sorry if my questions seem a bit basic for some. I've gotten used to just using ubuntu's aptitude and just deploying wars to the webapp directory so I'm not familiar with the details of tomcat. I appreciate any help.

Thanks Lester. I'll check out those links. Btw, I already read http://www.w3schools.com/wap/default.asp and i haven't found how to call api's. How are servlets(services API) invoked in WAP?
My team has currently set up a website (php and javascript) that utilizes a java backend. Our client needs an implementation of this for wap, because they want the service applicable for old phones. I have no idea how to set up a wap server and what I need to install. I think it is possible with tomcat 6.

Unfortunately I have no idea how the product will be packaged, are wap sites deployed in wars? how are they different from other projects. I searched the web but i normally get Wap tutorials on how to use wml tags. I need a guide on how to start and how to test.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have rebuilt and re-deployed already and I do have the ibatis jar as well. Thanks for the link. I'll go through them.

I posted here because I thought it was a JSP problem. since most of the code runs on JSTL.

I also get this error. I'm really lost as to what causes this set of errors.

Just a little background on me, I've mostly worked with servlets and wicket; I'm not a master of either but I'm pretty average. As for struts and jsp, I am a bit lost on what xml file, I should look for.

Right now, I am tasked to work with JSTL and Struts for this bank. Its concern is to work on an existing system and do some fixes for it. So right now I am setting up the existing system thats runs on Windows 2004 server with a SQL 2000 SP 4 backend. I got it to run but the login is weird. The login pops up on firefox but not on windows IE 6. this results in me not being able to login and getting redirected to a you are not authorized to login page. I am not too familiar wiht how JSTL and Struts work. I don't know if this is a configuration issue or is a program issue, can someone help me?

Also when I have project that has a netbeans project folder, can I import it to eclipse helios? So this project is mainly JSTL and struts. I am confused by the tools in netbeans; so I was thinking of just using eclipse since I used it for a couple of years.
It shows me two logs from tomcat which I'm not sure is the default or not. There is a localhost log and a catalina log. I recall always just tailing the catalina log. Can someone clarify for me what each log is suppose to tell me?

Thanks. I really appreciate it.

H guys,

Here's a quick background:

It's a request by a local bed-spacer; because he wanted to let people log into his wifi for free but to make up for the internet costs. He ask clubs or organizations pay a small fee for some ads. It works with the same principle of how charges them for posting on his bulletin board. It's just petty cash but it's a good idea; and it will give a lot of people free net and he could speed up his internet speed base on how much he makes. I've been leeching on his wifi, so I owe him.

Basically I need to control who gets access and show them these things. I figure I should start with a dialer and place ads there. I imagine something running by the toolbar to show some ads. I wanted to use java since I am more familiar with it. Is there a better way of doing this? I thought there would be softwares out there for this but I could find any FREE customizable dialers out there.

I'm not sure if dialers are the answer either. So please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.
Hi
I've read the pppoe post 3 years ago. I wonder if things have changed?
I wish to write a custom dialer and server. I absolutely don't know where to start since most of my experience is in writing webservices. I wish to ask for assistance in the form of sample codes or links to where I can learn and get started with writing a PPPOE dialer.
I know basic socket programming but I don't know how protocols are implemented or used.

I can't prove that it is possible, but I believe java is powerful enough for this task. Can anyone help me?
