Hello Jim,
Sorry to hear that you didn't pass. On the mark report, did you get a breakdown of the section scores? I had that at the end of my exam so I had some ideas of what areas I was weak in and needed to concentrate on.
I recently wrote the exam and passed and my programming experience was from university working with C++ mostly (over 4 years ago). I didn't really do much coding exercises when I studied but went through a lot of mock exams where there are questions with code and one has to know if the code will compile (if not, why not) and also follow the execution. When there were questions about how (or why) some code worked, I made a small example to compile and run as Valentin suggested before. That is a good exercise to go through, and there is always a ton of help available at the ranch.
Hope this helps a bit. Best of luck with studying!

Hello Steve,
Well, I would suggest e-mailing Enthuware again. I am not sure what timezone they are located in, but I am located in Canada which is GMT -5 and I was able to e-mail them and get consistent replies that they are looking into the problem from about 10AM (our time) until maybe 3-4PM.
Hope you get your software soon, and good luck with your studying!!
Best Regards,
Peter
Thanks guys!
Now I am off to study for either the Web Component or the Developers exam. Haven't quite figured out which to do yet. Or I can study something easy first to give myself a breather.
Best Regards,

I had some problems with purchasing JQPlus and JWebPlus bundle, but it was due to my mistake using a free e-mail address like Hotmail. I was never charged (based on the order status) and once I contacted both Enthuware and RegSoft, it was cleared up very fast and I received the e-mails containing the tests.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Peter
Hello all,
Thanks for all the help with questions I had during the study process. I passed the Programmer's cert yesterday and it wasn't as hard as I had imagined, even though I knew not too much about the AWT and Collections.
Again, many thanks!
Best Regards,
Peter

Hello all,
On JQ+ there is a question as follows:
public class TestClass
{
public static void main(String args[])
{
A[] a, a1;
B[] b;
a = new A[10]; a1 = a;
b = new B[20];
a = b; // 1
b = (B[]) a; // 2
b = (B[]) a1; // 3
}
}
class A { }
class B extends A { }
..............
The choices are
1) Compile Time error at line 3
2) The program will throw java.lang.ClassCastException at line 2 when run
3) The program will throw java.lang.ClassCastException at line 3 when run
4) The program will compile and run, if the (B[]) cast at line 2 and the whole line 3 is removed
5) The cast at line 2 is needed
..............
The answers are 3 and 5. I don't quite understand why it will throw a ClassCastException at line 3 if it does not do so at line 2. If I had variables A a = new A(); and B b = new B(), a = b does not need a cast, but b = a would not work. b = (B) a is required. The only thing I can see causing the specified behaviour is line 1, but I don't understand why it is so. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks.
Hello all,
Just working through JQ+ to prepare for the certification. Ran across this question:
...
Which modifiers would be valid in the declaration of a main() method so that the class can be run from command line?
a)native
b)protected
c)public
d)final
e)abstract
...
Correct answers are a, c and d. I had chosen b instead of a. The explanation indicates that although b would work, it is not valid for the purpose of the certification. Can we expect other similar types of question like this, where the correct answer (or one of the correct answer) is not valid?
