After having upgraded my JRE to 1.6.0 rc, I'm having an issue with applet "notinited". This is the error I see on the Java console. Does anyone have any ideas on what must be going wrong? It's not an issue with classpath, as I can revert back to JRE1.5 update 8 and the whole thing starts to work!

Hi,

I am working on a Swing application which allows the user the flexibility to copy data from an Excel spreadsheet and paste it into a set of JTextfields. The code looks something like this:

This used to work reasonably well in JDK1.3. But on running this with JDK 1.5, it behaves strangely. If I attempt to paste data from 10 cells in Excel into 10 individual JTextfields, only the first Textfield retains the data, all the other seem to get cleared out, but the cursor finally rests the 10th JTextField.

Any ideas, anybody?

Of course, if you are interested in UML, you could consider OCUP as well. Usually, 486 is taken by those who are interested to get ICED.

Nick, could you please tell me what OCUP is...and where I can get more info regarding the same. Thanks for clarifying my doubt.
Hi,

I'm planning to do IBM 486. I've passed SCJP, SCWCD and SCBCD previously. Am really confused as to whether I'll need to do any other exam along with the 486 to receive a certificate from IBM.
Pls advise. Thanks.
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the SCJD forum and am currently toying with the idea of doing the Developer Certification. Please enlighten me, what is "Max's book"? I went to the recommended reading links page but didn't find any book authored by "Max"! Please help.

Could anyone please expand on what could be the possible problems in the presentation layer if a web application is developed using JSP/HTML? If the problems are in the front-end, what can be done by the devloper to make the application faster and lighter??

Hi,
Could anyone tell me how one could go about fine tuning a website which is substantially big (and interactive) developed using JSP/HTML with Javascript. I am interested in how the front-end can be fine-tuned for better performance making it faster and lighter.
I am aware that if the bottle exists at the server side, then measures such a fine tuning of server side code and database queries could be done.
Thanks,
Paramita

Hi Everyone,
Thanks a lot. You guys were my inspiration!!!
Rashmi,
Don't let the specs scare you off.....you should go thru it. If you are finding it difficult, maybe you could read each HF EJB chapter and immediately follow it up with the corresponding chapter in the spec to cement your understanding, and to pick up those one or two small things which may have not been mentioned in the book. This approach kind of worked for me.
Good luck!!!

Hi Dhandu,
As I mentioned before, I read thru the EJB specs, Richard Monson Haefel's Enterprise JavaBeans and HF EJB. I took almost 8 weeks to prepare...a I'm working full time and have a three and half year old daughter!!
Read thru the specs atleast twice. I found the chapter on Entity Beans (Chap 10) in the specs pretty confusing....but Monson Haefel explains the concept well. When it comes to EJB QL...knowing SQL really helps. Read thru HF EJB atleast twice....the second read will help you grasp things which were not too clear earlier.
All the best.

did you use any mock exam like the one from Whizlab or anyother? if you did, how useful were they and how close to the real exam questions?
thanks.

Hi Namaste,
No, I did not use any of the Exam Simulators.....only the trial versions available for free download.
I did the mock exams on JDiscuss though, and found them quite good.
If you're using HF EJB, don't do the final Mock Exam until you are really prepared....I did it just the night before my exam.
Good Luck.

Hi Fellow Ranchers,
Just finished the exam today. Did the usual to prepare:
- the EJB specs
- read thru Monson Haefel's Enterprise JavaBeans( it's a great book to understand Entity Beans well)
- and off course, Head First EJB (that book is great...kind of helps to put your thoughts together after you've read the specs and are feeling pretty confused.....thank you Kathy and Bert.....I love the way some of the most difficult concepts are explained thru drawings/pictures!!! And the humor is great too!! ).
I learnt a lot from the posts on this forum. Thanks everyone.
Cheers,
Paramita

My answer 1, 3 are correct. That all right?
Please, let me .

Yes Somkiat, 1 & 3 are correct. 2 is false, coz MDBs sure can use BMT.
As for Option 3, I wouldn't say that message handling is rolled back, rather, the message acknowledgement is never sent to the JMS destination

Sorry about the earlier post....I meant to say
"Could *NOT* find any links to download sample chapters at the Oreilly site..."
