I hope that's just an example, and not something you're actually considering doing. IMO, that would be as annoying as those auto-replies to email from people who are using that just to acknowledge an email, even though they are not away from the office.

Yes its an example on something everyone know, for easier comprehension.

Hi all, i am trying to make a program to interact with a webserver.

This is supposed to be more or less generic, still don't have a specific purpose for it.

But to better illustrate what am trying to do, here is in example:

every time a friend on Facebook friends publishes something, the program would automatically place a like on my behalf.

Can this be done?
Is java an adequate language to do this? if not what is the most adequate?
Are there open source programs out there already doing this, so i can take ideas or even adjust the program to do what i want?

To better describe what i am trying to do:

The program would have to refresh from x to x seconds, search the server response for YYYYYYY event, and trigger a response to the server.
What is troubling me here is the communication with the server part.

thanks in advance

Hi all

Been searching the site, for the correct place to post this question.

didn't found one more suitable, so placed it here, please feel free to relocate it.

Been making sites, for a while, simple things, using Java and other technologies.

Anyway the other day a client told me he wanted to make a site where he could sell an online edition of his magazine( its a small local magazine).
And I thought to myself ...hmm yeah, that is interesting, but I never really done it.

And so this is the question, what do you have to make to sell something on a website?
Payment would be made through credit card, so you somehow would need to have a few licences with some bank identity or something like that...
Would any special software be necessary?
Would a versign certificate, or something like that be necessary?

thanks in advance

am using a filter to check if a user is already in a session, therefore logged in.

was wondering if ajax xmlhttprequests are filtered also, and if that should be a concern, regarding security

yap, you should probably read someting on java first and then some generic JEE, and go from there to more specialized stuff. I read K & B first, and then core servlets

that sounds like a very good book indeed.
is it from 2006?
is there a more recent editionĀ»?

is that book from 2003 , or is there a more recent edition?

hey, i read core servlet and jsp, volume I and II
was my first 2 books on JEE and found them very useful.
great part of volume II is about strouts. Never read that part (will when and if it becomes necessary)
the book is from 2008 i think.
is strouts still commonly used btw? or has it been replaced with some more modern framework?

yes, was wondering if there is a big difference using java, PHP or other technologies.

or if the bulk is on the client side.

would like to use java on the server side

am familiar with javascript, and css, but no expert.

would like a book that would explain the concepts behind ajax.

Found a few, but allways referring to PHP on the server side, was looking for something with java

NOTE: edited after reading Bear Bibeault follow up post to my original one, wich was in fact very short on information.

What are your troubleshooting steps with the user?

no one really answered what that exception really means, me am not very familiar with the issue, but it seems like somewhere an argument of the wrong types was entered, but that might be a very incomplete answer.
more suggestions?

Bear Bibeault wrote:Please be sure to ask eclipse questions in the IDEs forum. I have moved this post there for you.

you didnt even read the post
it is more about jstl than netbeans (not eclipse , thnks for reading what you moving)
anyway this post is gonna die in IDE forum
ide's are way to generic
could be about javascript, c, java SE , ruby, etc etc etc, jstl is to specific, this should be in jsp
