Hey folks,

Im using a recyclerview consisting of imageviews. I want to display just one full screen image at a time and user will scroll through images. Instead the recyclerview shows smaller images. I've set "match_parent" to recyclerview , and to its imageviews as well.

How can I achieve that?

Thanks

Steve Luke wrote:Why do you need to handle the rotation yourself, and are you sure you need to? As you said, you checked other solutions and they don't fit your requirements. So perhaps you need to tell us your requirements, what you have tried, and why they didn't work so we don't re-hash the same old discussions. Make sure you have read the Android Developer Network article on this (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/runtime-changes.html) to see what it suggests - it has two examples on how it should be done.

Hey Steve,

thanks ,I tried that link which you gave and I tried the second example but thats not the requirement.

Basically I have a camera application where, on rotating the phone from portrait to landscape, I just want to rotate one particular menu and not the whole parent view(and activity itself)

I checked for handling runtime orientation changes on google, and almost all of them point to the example which you gave. I also tried this code out...

AS shown, the above code works in rotating my menu by 90 degrees when the phone is in landscape while keeping other layouts in same mode, but the obvious problem is when I turn it back to portrait mode , its still tilted and I am confused in finding a way to rotate it back to its original position.

Cant I poll the value of the angle(90,180,etc) of the phone and rotate my menu?

Thanks,

Hello,

I have an app in which I have to handle orientation change myself rather than the system handling it,

here's the psuedocode

if(orientation==landscape)

rotate view by 90 degrees

else

keep the original view

can someone explain me how to handle it? I have checked many solutions over the net but i cant find one that fits this requirement...

Thanks

Hey guys ,

I have a photo editing app on the play store , and lately I've had some complaints about it being slow , the problem is when I'm done with editing ,and click on save , the photo gets saved and i show an exit activity and that's where the lag comes from . I'm using a handler to save the photograph ,still i get sometimes 1-2 second lag. So I have heard a lot about asynctask but I haven't used it .

Can someone please guide me as to how I can open the new activity quickly, while still performing photo saving task in background.

PS- My present code

Thanks ,

I have a photo editing app, and i want to implement a share button inside it...

eg: when a user is done and presses SHARE, a list of apps appear and then a user can share the image... like what we see in many editors these days,

i searched the net and i got some snippets, but these are for text sharing...

now, i want to know how to change the mime type as well as where to insert the URI of the image in order to share it...

Thanks,

I think getting the core java basics right is the first milestone you should target for, and later , depending upon your requirement, learn more API's(eg: network api) , also there's no such thing as complete knowedge of java as its too vast

Well,

2 years back i had the same question when i started out

I guess you should learn core java from books like head first java or apress publications and then read a book called android for java developers.

If you directly dive into android, you'll be baffled as soon as you reach beyond hello world examples...

thanks,

this is what i really wanted, especially i'd give a +1 for the wireframe had there been a button for that

sure ,

I'll give the the xml of what i mean , i think you'll get my question asap then

all i want is a 0.5 alpha of parent and 1 alpha of child...
I think you interpreted that differently, i mean , my linear layout has an alpha property of 0.5 because its laid on top of an imageview,to render a better ux, but all the textviews inside linearlayout aren't supposed to have alpha, but that's the default android behavior i guess,so any workarounds? Setting alpha value of textview to 1 doesnt seem to work...

hey guys,

I have a few textviews inside a linear layout, but when i set the alpha property in linear layout, even the child layouts appear half transparent, how can i set the property only for parent but not the child , either by xml or programatically ?

hi,

thanks for the help, I used the first solution you mentioned, also I've used the list adapter before, but my layout consists of buttons with different appearances, hence a tedious task of customizing them , so i guess your solution 1 solves it all I can have my custom buttons defined in layout.xml plus only one click method to process that data...!

thanks again

Hello ,

I have a scrollview in which there are about 60 buttons arranged in a linear layout, all of which have a similar function(changing text font) , now, if i had , say , 10 buttons , i would create a referance for each and set a touchlistener for each button as below,

Obviously this is okay for a small number, but there must be a way in which the parent view will handle the event and get the ViewId of the respective buttons touched like below

Is this possible or do i need to copy paste the same code over for 60 times?

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,
