Kumar Khiani wrote:Hi Steven,

Wow! What an exhaustive and inspiring reply! Thanks bro.

This reply will serve as a guide for all other aspiring candidates on how to crack OCPJP7 with GREAT score

Will follow the tip of making custom exams on enthuware, I am sure that will help me a lot. I have attempted first 2 exams of enthuware and scores are disappointingly low and you have correctly mentioned they should had been solved as an open book test - lol.

Thumbs-up to you for cracking an OCPJP7 exam being a core Oracle RDBMS guy . Which other certifications have you achieved? 5 certificates in 5 months is superb!!! Which is the next target?

Coincidentally we both have joined this forum in the same week and have obtained same percentage in OCAJP but I just wish to get OCPJP7 certified in the first attempt There is really a lot to cover from many different sources.

Once again thanks for your guidance. I am planning to give the exam in next month. I will keep you updated.

Thanks,
Kumar.

Hi Steve,

Many congratulations. Quick question: I did my OCAJP7 yesterday now going to take OCPJP7 in jan14. I followed Mala Gupta for OCAJP7, not K&B. For OCPJP7, If I had to follow only either K&B or Ganesh/Sharma. Which one you think better prepares you for the OCPJP7 exam please? I am only going to follow one of these two books?

Yesterday, I passed the OCAJP7 exam scoring 86%. Just wanted to share my experience and tips hoping someone might find these helpful.

Study material: I started with K&B as I was thinking of initially taking the OCPJP6 exam. But decided to go the OCAJP7->OCPJP7 route. I picked up a copy of Mala Gupta (http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCA-Java-Programmer-Certification-Guide/dp/1617291048). An excellent and a very focused book for anyone who wants to take the OCA exam.

Making notes: I made extensive notes from Mala Gupta using MS Word in a combination of my own words and picking up lines directly from the book. I cross-referenced my notes with the page numbers in the book. This helped me a lot to reinforce the concepts and pick up the most juicy bits from the chapters.

Mock exams and practise tests: I ordered ePractise package from Oracle for the same test. It gives you around 300 questions to play with. Though I didnt exactly see any actual exam questions from this pool.
I was planning to go through other free and paid websites for mock exams/questions/dumps. However, in the end, I didn't had much time left, so couldn't go through any other resources.

Exam: The exam itself is not an easy one. Given the high minimum pass percentage (77%). I was very determined to manage my time during the exam. After every 10 questions, I would check my average speed of answering questions and see if I'm going according to the time or am I taking too long to answer. A trick, I picked up when I took the GMAT. In the end, I finished the exam with 30 minutes still on the clock. I made a mistake of not marking any questions for review thinking that I wont have any spare time to go through the questions later on. The exam interface doesnt allow you to jump to a particular question UNLESS you have marked it for a review later. Otherwise, you can only go sequentially. That hurt me a little in the end. As I had time and rather than going through the questions sequentially, I wanted to go to questions I thought could use a second look. So, consider marking difficult questions for review.

Also, I thought that there were a lot of tricky questions too. Questions that might seem simple or easy but are designed to fool you.

I am going to take the OCPJP7 in Jan14.

Good luck guys.

Hey Sachin,

many congratulations for a great score. I am also preparing for the OCP JP6 exam and following K&B books now. Could you please tell me how do you compare the difficulty level of the Self Test questions at the end of the chapter in K&B Study guide with that in the real exam? Thanks

Jayesh Doolani wrote:Well credit goes to the book by Kathy Sierra, It helped me a lot.
Exam was a bit tricky for me, and that is the best part. Winning from tough situations makes achievement even more enjoyable.
Next step would be to conquer OCJD. Any tips on how to prepare for it? Is there any training that is required for it?

Congratulations Jayesh! What a great score you have there.

I am preparing for OCP JP6 and following Sierra and Bates. Could kindly tell us what resources did you use to prepare for the exam? Did you follow any other book(s) in addition to Sierra&Bates? Any mock exam websites that you could recommend.
Lastly, I am doing the Self Test Questions at the end of each of the chapters of Sierra & Bates. I wonder how close is the difficulty level of these questions to the real exam? Thanks very much. Wish you luck for the JD exam
