I have a co team member that does not perform well. We are both team leader level but consider as individual contribor under the same project and module. On his profile, he said that he has 5 years of Java experience. But he has poor logical, communication, reading and writing skills. Our methodology is sprint agile (2weeks apart) and was assigned the task by on shore team. But we already have 4 sprints and he always involves me in his task. He always ask question, be it technically or business side (which I always say ask those to BA). For technical side, he still have problems deploying microservice and always stuck with the same problem and always asks me. Then he can’t finish a story except if the story is about adding additional field and save in the DB. If the story is about creating new functions, or modifying the logic of existing system, he can’t do it.
I remember we had a sprint where all his work were rewritten by our on-shore team leader. He always asks to the point where it’s more efficient if I will write the code than to explain it very detailed. Then if I explained it, he won’t listen or will always forgot what I said if he encounter it on next sprint.
As for troubleshooting, if he ask me then I answer, he can’t make it work then if I will do it on his laptop. It will work.
Then he also has problem with listening, speaking and writing in English. Our onshore team’s native language is English and we are both Filipino. Most of the time I dictate in english what he will ask to BA or to our coubterpart dev.
I’m bugged because it is as if I’m ‘doing’ his story. We’re working at the same office and the rest in other country. I dont know how to deal with it.
