I'm wrapping my head around how JForum works and I found something called relationForums.

I don't know what it exactly does or what it is needed for.

I took a snapshot of DefaultCacheEngine. Well, simply .toString() and printed it.

So it looked something like this among other things.

What do those pairs of numbers mean ?
What are those for ?

Ah I see. I understand now.(well, as much as I can)

And oops, I didn't know that cross posting is considered a bad practice.
I normally don't do this though.

Again, thanks for that tip on keeping the community bulletin board neat. ;)

Thanks for further answer.

One more question though.

I also posted this on stackoverflow and got an answer saying it would break the separation of concerns if I used parameters on the MVC view layer.
How is that breaking the separation of concerns and how do I avoid that ?

If you could toss me some keywords or links, I'll do the rest of that.

I am not quite sure if I should make another thread for this one or not.

I'm using JForum and I wanted to access request parameters in Freemarker template files. I googled a bit and tried the followings without any luck.

They all return RequestParameters is undefined or args is undefined sort of errors.

I saw some questions like "How do you access request parameters in Freemarker templates using Spring MVC?" but I could not get help from those questions and answers.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

One thing I can say is that I learned a lot about BBS systems and Java itself by going through its source code and I'm still learning.

It is open source. You can learn from its source code unless you already know all that stuff.

As for usefulness of this BBS system, I find it pretty useful.

I'm reading through the source code of JForum.

I'm going through net.jforum.context.web.WebRequestContext.

The class extends HttpServletRequestWrapper.

My questions are,

1) What would be the purpose of extending HttpServletRequestWrapper ?

2) Why would you need HttpServletRequestWrapper in the first place ?

and last, Why would you need object request parameters where you can just use request attributes ?
