Thanks a lot David,
I followed your suggestion and it worked fine exactly the way I wanted. The windows get closed as soon as the download is complete which is fine. Ideally though, it would have been better if there is only one pop up box to download all the files.
The alternate working solution that I had was using a signed applet to do the downloads sequentially once the user selected the files and hit the download button. This had only one applet window open to do all the downloads. But the client did not want to do anything with applets and certificates.
Hence the javascript route is fine.
Thanks again for all the responses.

Hi,
I also have a similar requirement. Can someone suggest ways to do this.
I also do not mind using javascript to do this. Using javascript, I am able to download only one file at a time, but I need to download multiple files selected by the user by checking check boxes and clicking a button.
Please suggest ways to download multiple files.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I have a list of files on my page associated with check boxes and with hidden URLs. Depending on the selection made by the user (by checking one or more check boxes) and by clicking a button, these files have to be downloaded from the server to the PC. I am able to do a download of only one file at a time.
Using javascript I am also able to concatenate the URLs of the files selected by the user. But I need to download all the files selected by the user, on a single click of the button.
Can someone suggest ways to download multiple files at a time.
Thanks.
The above works on a button click. In case of an hyperlink :
First, have an html (called first.html) like this:
<html>
<p><a href="applettohtml.html">Click here to start
Applet</a>
</p>
Next,in applettohtml.html have the code like this:
<html>
<applet code = "applettohtml.class" width = 100 height = 100>
</applet>
</html>
Now, run first.html and click the link to run the applet.
Remember to place first.html,applettohtml.html,applettohtml.class in the same directory.
Try it out and mail me back.

Try calling a javascript function on "onClick" event of the button.
Inside the function do as follows:
top.frameName.document.write('<APPLET WIDTH=100
HEIGHT=100
NAME="appletname"
CODE="appletname.class"
</APPLET>');
Here frameName indicates the frame where you want the applet to run.
You can also run the applet on a new window as follows:
Inside the function:
var win=window.open("","","location=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,toolbar=0,status=0,height=150,width=500");
win.document.writeln('<APPLET WIDTH=100
HEIGHT=100
NAME="appletname"
CODE="appletname.class"
</APPLET>');
Hope this solves your purpose.

I have successfully worked out a solution.
On the Click of a button in my JSP, I call a javascript function which does:
win=window.open("with usual parameters");
and I dynamically load the plugin with all the parms as follows:
win.document.writeln('<OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" WIDTH = "300" HEIGHT = "100" >
<PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="appletclassname.class">
<PARAM NAME="codebase" VALUE="/path/">
<PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="appletjar.jar">
<PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3"></OBJECT>');
This also solves my original requirement to load the plugin only on a button click and also to call a particular method in the applet after the button click.

The reason for posting in this forum is because the above code works perfectly fine if i use the following equivalent:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" WIDTH = "300" HEIGHT = "100" >
<PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="packagename.appletclassname.class">
<PARAM NAME="codebase" VALUE="/path/">
<PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="jarname.jar">
<PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
but does not work in a JSP where <jsp:plugin> tag is provided to enable a JSP to load the java plugin.
The equivalent of the above without the plugin also works perfectly fine when given as below:
<APPLET WIDTH=100
HEIGHT=100
CODE="packagename.appletclassname.class"
CODEBASE="/path/"
ARCHIVE="jarname.jar">
</APPLET>
My requirement is to run the plugin applet from the jsp and hence i use <jsp:plugin> tag, but does not seem to find the class files from the jar.
Thanks for the reply, though.

Hi all,
My jsp successfully loaded applet using java plugin when I used normal code as below:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" WIDTH = "300" HEIGHT = "100" >
<PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="appletclassname.class">
<PARAM NAME="codebase" VALUE="/path/">
<PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="appletjar.jar">
<PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
Now I am trying to call a method in the applet from onClick of a button in the jsp. I get "Object does not support this property or method" error.
Can someone enlighten me the mistake and provide a solution.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I have a JSP form that has to load an applet using java-plugin. I have also added the code snippet below for reference.
Unfortunately I keep getting class not found exception. The classes are in a jar file. Is there a different syntax for such cases. Thanks.
<jsp:plugin type="applet"
code="packagename.appletclassname.class"
codebase="/pathOfArchive/"
archive="jarname.jar"
width="200"
height="100">
</jsp:plugin>

Windows 2000 / I.E. 5.5 / JRE plugin 1.3 / Adobe 4.0
Hi All,
I have a peculiar problem. My application runs on windows 2000, uses JRE 1.3 plug-in, and loads pdf documents using Acrobat 4.0. The browser used is I.E.5.5. What happens is when the user tries to open another pdf document from the Table of Contents, it does not get loaded and the already open pdf document remains.
This does not happen when I use I.E.5.0. Has anyone faced similar problem and can anybody suggest a remedy for this.
Thanks.

I am able to call java method from javascript when i use the browser's JVM.
But when i use the java plug-in, and call the java method, I get:"error:document.myApplet not an object". How do I call the java method in this case?
Given below is the code snippet for better understanding of the problem or to find out whether I am missing something here. Thanks.
<OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" WIDTH = "0" HEIGHT = "0" codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2.2/jinstall-1.2.2-win32.cab#Version=1,2,2,0">;
<PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="HelloWorld.class">
<PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
<PARAM NAME="name" VALUE="myApplet">
<PARAM NAME="scriptable" VALUE="true">
</OBJECT>
<input name=Submit type=submit value="test" onClick=document.myApplet.callMethod()>
</p>

Hi,
I am opening a browser window thru javascript, and it runs an applet. Once the applet completes its function, I want it to close the browser window in which it ran. Can anyone suggest how to go about doing this?
Thanks.

Hi Harish,
Thanks for replying. I have been trying various methods including the method suggested by you. But I have problems in the javascript method also as I have posted in the JavaScript forum in this site. The win object does not get created and is null always. Can you tell me what could be the reason?
Kiosk means opening the application or URL in full screen mode without any browser features like Tilte bar, menubar, location,toolbar, status etc. All you will see is the site occupying the full screen. My application runs in this mode and I am trying to open another instance in non-kiosk mode i.e., with all browser features.
Thanks,

Hi all,
I am using getAppletContext and showDocument methods to open another instance of the browser with a particular URL from an application that runs in the kiosk mode. But I want the new browser window to open in non-kiosk mode (i.e., with titlebar,menubar,toolbar etc). Can anyone tell me how to open the new browser window with these browser features inspite of the original window being in kiosk mode ?
Thanks in advance,
arul.
