Kathy or Bert,
First of all, I'd like to say that this book is great! Topics are presented in a way that actually makes it fun to read.
Just had one suggestion... Would it be possible to create another errata page (in addition to the existing one) which appends the newest changes chapter by chapter to the end of the last version of the errata? So for example, the next errata page would contain March version plus new changes appended to the end. This would make it a lot easier to review these changes and update the book as each new version of the errata comes out.
I hope other people will find this helpful as well.
Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
What is the order of precedence for these logical and bitwise operators?
thanks.
Mansi
Bert,
To what extent will we need to know how to evaluate bit shifting expressions? Is there any shortcut(quick way) for this?
thanks.

What are the requirements for working from home?

Which one has higher precedence?
Thanks.

You need to do an explicit cast to allow this to compile.
for example, byte a = (byte)128;
This needs to be done because a byte can only hold up to 127.

Geeta,
Are there any java projects available at this site?

Sarma,
Are you sure that interfaces are static by default? I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that interfaces can never be marked static. Take a look at Kathy's book - p.103. Here interfaces is listed in the section, "Things you can't mark static"

What is the process for becoming a contributor to the Jakarta open source projects? Also is this a good way to get experience with Jsp/Servlets?
Thanks.

Kathy/Bert:
Do the open book, closed book, and Master Exams on the CD all display questions from the same common pool of quetions? Or are they 3 different exams entirely?
Thanks.
Mansi
Dan,
Thanks you for providing this example. It helped clear things up.
Also, thank you for taking the time to create these mock exams. They're a great study aid.

I guess what I really meant to ask is why is the i incremented before the array access expression is evaluated?
Thanks.

Here's the question:
Question 4
class X {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int i = 0;
while (i++ < args.length) {
System.out.print(args[i]);
}
}
}
Assume the above main method is invoked using the following
command line.
java X A B C D E F

What is the result of attempting to compile and run the program using the specified command line?
a. Prints: ABCDE
b. Prints: BCDEF
c. Prints: ABCDEF
d. Compile-time error
e. Run-time exception
f. None of the Above
-------------------------------------------------
I am confused why the answer is e. Why is the index incremented before the array access expression is evaluated?
Please help. Thanks.

Barnes & Noble and Amazon both of this book in stock. B&N says that this book has 800+ pages and Amazon says that it has 700+ pages. Also, the publication dates are different on both sites.
Are there 2 different versions of the book? I just wanted to make sure i'm getting the right one.
Please help.
