What about the OCP books by Jeanne Boyarsky?  They get great reviews on Amazon...

OCA: Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-808
OCP: Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 8 Programmer II Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-809

and also what about

OCA / OCP Java SE 8 Programmer Practice Tests by Scott Selikoff

Thanks
Hi Jeanne,

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I sent the email to 'bookpromotion@javaranch.com'.

Hello and good day Jeanne Boyarsky,

You had asked me to move this issue to the Book Promo Account, which I hope this is.

Here was your response to the question/email I sent (which is copied at the bottom of this email):

I replied to the June 4th email yesterday. (With a note that the winner info was sent in on July 30th, way more than 8 days.) I said I'd ask the publisher if it is too late.

For the other one, please email this question to the book promo account and I'll follow up on that.

--------------------------
Concerning the book that you replied to me as being too late, I was unaware that I had won the book on the Book Promo Winner - Classic Computer Science Problems with Python for Tuesday, June 4 2019.  I guess this goat (me) missed an email.  Hopefully the publisher will be kind and understanding, and I can still get a copy of the book.
Please look into the other book for Book Promo Winner - Electron in Action - Sunday, January 20 2019 and let me know what you discover.

And thank you very much for looking into this matter - I sincerely appreciate it.

Regards,
Anthony (Tony) Esposito

Initial email from me:

Hello Fellow Ranchers and good day,

I have yet to receive 2 (two) book promotions that I was fortunate enough to win at the Ranch.  These are as follows:

Book Promo Winner - Classic Computer Science Problems with Python - Tuesday, June 4 2019
Book Promo Winner - Electron in Action - Sunday, January 20 2019

My name at the ranch is "Tony Esposito".

I just recently resent my information as it relates to the "Classic Computer Science Problems with Python" promotion.  That information is also valid for the "Electron in Action" book promo.
Would you be kind enough to see if the goat has ate these two promo books before I could get them... :-)

Thank you so kindly.
Regards,

I believe there is a lot of code sharing between Spring Web MVC and Spring Web Reactive.
Will the Spring Web MVC modules ever contain the Reactive Streams HTTP adapter layer that is found in Spring Web Reactive?
Or will developers be asked to move to Spring Web Reactive?

Thank you

Some of the explanation for Python's growth at the college level (e.g., ease of use) can be applied to other languages as well as Python.
So why has Python seen such a high adoption rate within introductory CS classes at universities?
It seems to me this is important since the choice of what programming language is first learned may influence a students' first impression of the field of computer science.

I had won a Book Promo for “Electron in Action” back in January of 2019 but never received the printed book.  Could you look into this for me, please? Thank you.

Ruby saw a spike in popularity between 2010-2016, but it seems like the industry is trending towards Python.
So my question is, why should I continue with Ruby versus moving to Python?  Has Python killed Ruby?

Thank you.

Hello,
 Using Eclipse on Windows.  Using log4j - yes, I know it is deprecated :-)  This is a desktop app, not a web app btw.

 I need to know how to set the relative path location of the log4.properties file on the JVM command-line on Windows.

-Dlog4j.configuration=file:"./resources/log4j.properties"

and also I need to set the relative path location of the log file in the log4j.properties file on Windows.

log4j.rootLogger=INFO, FILE

log4j.appender.FILE=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.FILE.File=./appl.log
log4j.appender.FILE.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.FILE.layout.ConversionPattern=%d{yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss} %-5p %c{1}:%L - %m%n
log4j.appender.FILE.MaxFileSize=5MB
log4j.appender.FILE.MaxBackupIndex=5
log4j.appender.FILE.append=true

I have tried numerous variations and cannot get a log file to generate.

Hello everyone,
 My questions seems simple -- why should I learn Kotlin over Java?  For example, how does learning Kotlin make me a more marketable developer or better developer?  Is Kotlin just a trend or fad (no offense intended)?

Thanks

Hello Peggy,
 I was looking over the chapters in your book and was wondering why some gentle introduction to Java logging was not included?
 I suspect most of us would consider logging important but we may disagree on whether or not it is a beginner or an advanced subject.
 Your thoughts?
