Campbell Ritchie wrote:What sort of theory are you taught? Do you understand the principles of object‑orientation, for example?

Sorry for the late reply

We started first with C programming language. Then we continued with the principles of object oriention with C++ and after that we studied Java.

I have done a little search on Google concerning my initial question and I found this javapoint. It is sth similar to what I am looking for. On this website there are some Java projects already done. What I was looking for was a step-by-step explanation on how to do such projects like those on this website.

My goal is to improve my programming knowledge by practicing and to prepare myself for a future job. As long as I don't have some good skills in programming, I will not be able to find a job in this area.
Or maybe you as experienced people have a better advice for me?

Thank you a lot for so many good tips for a newcomer.

Harry Kar wrote:what issues you meet in your studying/learning path in your Uni(link?)?

Concerning issues I meet in my studying/learning path in my Uni, I think the problem is in the educational system in Romania and my high expectations before being a student. So, some aspects concerning my learning process:

1. We are given just an overview over a subject, which is not enough for starting a career. We were told that we are the ones which have to deepen our knowledges (maybe the problem is in my expectations as I said before and the teaching methods are the same in other countries)
2. We learn much theory and we do less practice

Thank you very much for all your valuable information.
I am studying in Romania in a small city called Baia Mare.

What you mean exactly? describe better please

For example, I know some basic stuff in Java and I want to deepen my knowledges. I am thinking that a better way is to start something from scratch, but I don't know what to start with.
If I am wrong, what would be the best approach?

Are there any learning platforms that can guide you in making a software from scratch?
I am a university student, but the courses at my university are inconsistent and I have to learn on my own. Do you have some tips and advices?
Thank you in advance!

Swastik Dey wrote:You don't seem to have initialized glu.

I am deeply sorry for the stupid question, but how should I do this?

If I write:

then I am getting another error: Exception in thread "main" No OpenGL context current on this thread.
on the line:

I am trying to draw a cylinder using the glu.gluCylinder, like that:

However, I get a NullPointerException error at the line

How should I handle this error in order to be able to use glu.gluCylinder.
Thank you in advance!
So, I have to make a certain figure in 3D. (Figure 1 below)

The starting point is a program which finds the coordinates for a Bezier curve. These are the points 0,1,9,17,25,33,41,42. The program also finds the other coordinates for the 8 points of the octagons, which make the figure. For example, the first octagon is made from the points 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 , the second from points 9...16 and so on. (For a better understanding, the Figure 2 below)

I am trying to get the first ocatgon made from points 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and it doesn't appear on the result output. I would be very grateful if somebody would help me with a suggestion.

The code:

I can't express my gratitude for all your advices. I tried to follow them and now the code looks much better. Now I've realised that I have obtained a lot of valuable tips here which I didn't receive in 2 years of university till now and that I have a lot of space for improvement.

This code was given as a start point for our assignment. So, this is what my code displays (the first image).

The result shoul looke like in the second image.

Do you have any idea on how can I continue? Any suggestions would be of much help!

Thank you very much for your answers.

What would be the best practice in this case? Should I populate my array with a for loop? If yes, where would it be the suitable place to do that?
Also, I would be very grateful if you told me other ways of improving my code.

Hello. I am sorry for the dumb question in advance, but I cannot manage to continue without any help.
So, I get a NullPointerException at the line 110

This object is declared here:

As far as I know, this happens because cub is not initialised. However, I don't understand why I don't get this exception for the other ones:

How should I fix the problem?
Thank you in advance!
