The exam fee is too much on the higher side.
I hope Sun people do something about it....
we middle class people can barely afford it...

i am using a byte variable because the value to be stored is an integer between 1-50.
byte x;
x = 1;
x = x + 2; // problems (explicit cast required)
is there any other way to execute this without having to use typecasting?
raj.
whenever there is a conflict between two classes bearing the same name :
1. the class in the local package gets preference.
2. the other class has to be addressed completely. (with its package name)
so, if u do not specify any package, java uses the local class (which is in its scope)

I plan to appear in Java certification test in January, 2001. I have been told by many people that it is not worth doing Java as it may lose its poularity soon.
They say that Visual Basic 7 is going to be its competitor.
please advise.

The value of fff should be 5 and NOT 4. I have tried it on my machine. r u sure u r using java?
raj.

i quote :
Yes Laxmi t ried the code which i haven written it indeed gives the answer i hav written
byte fff = 4;
fff++;
System.out.println("fff is " +fff);
the output is 4 not 5
i think the first code is going to run faster. the continue statement in the second code is certainly going to have some overheads. the while loop contains a jump and continue will have another.
it is not true that java compiler mangles the source code to suit its convenience.
