My group is in the process of converting from Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g database. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience that they could share? Did it go well, any unexpected issues found, etc...

Thanks in advance!

Hi - I'm not looking for a discussion on whether or not to use EJBs, I'm looking for some guidance/opinions on the following questions. The environment is weblogic 8.1, oracle 9x. I would like to hear from people that have used CMP beans in this environment.

1) How well did they scale? What was the number of records that were in the table?

2) It's been hard to find documentation about how to configure the beans. Do you have any good documentation that suggests to settings to use?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a database table with 3 columns:
1. id
2. name
3. text

The id - primary key - is being generated by the database as a sequential key. I'm confused about how to implement this field in my cmp entity bean. During the ejbCreate, I can't set the field since it's being generated by the database.

thanks for your help.
I'm interested in using an open source rules engine and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on a good one.

I need to be able to store rules in a DB and then have certain attributes evaulated against the rules that are stored in the db.

Thanks
I keep getting this error when trying to retrive a DataSource within my application. It's deployed on Tomcat 4. The jar file that contains the DB driver is located in the common/lib folder.
Any clues?

Suppose I have a class:
public class User{
private String userId = null;
private Name name = null;
private List list = null;
// corresponding getter and setter methods
// left out because of space
}
Now suppose I have 2 User objects and I want to compare the 2 to see if they contain the same contents. What is the best and most efficient way to compare the objects. I know you can use reflection to get the properties and then get the values, but it becomes more complicated when their are lists or other objects involved besides Strings.
Thanks

Hi
We are designing an internet site that let's users query data and maintain it. One of the questions that has come up is how do you justify text/numbers in input boxes. One of our business people believes that all numeric values should be right justified in the input boxes. Personally, I believe that everything should be left justified in the input boxes. Does anyone have any opinions on this matter or places on the web that have suggestions for these types of issues?
Thanks
There are a standard number of validations that struts provides which are listed in the validator-rules.xml file. If you need to implement your own custom validations, you can add another rule to that xml file or create a new file to put your rule in. You just have to make sure to add it to the struts-config.xml file. To make your own rule, you just have to follow the standard method signature that the normal rules follow.
Let me know if this helps.

I'm using struts 1.1b3 release. When I am doing validation, I set up 2 fields in my validation.xml file. I have both fields as required. Field 1 has to also validate a minlength and Field 2 has to validate against a range. The following will illustrate the issue I'm having.
Situation #1
Field 1: (leave blank)
Field 2: (leave blank)
Error Messages:
Field 1 is required
Field 2 is required
Situation #2
Field 1: hello (this should fail validation)
Field 2: (leave blank)
Error Messages:
Field 2 is required
In situation #2, I would also expect an error message from Field 1 stating that it does not meet the minlength rule. Instead, it looks like the validator is making the user enter in all of the required fields before going forward with any validation.
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this behavior??
Thanks

Has anyone seen this error when you try to build your project in WSAD 4.1.1?
Errors during build.
lang.NullPointerException encountered while running com.ibm.iwt.linksbuilder.LinksBuilder..r.der.
Thanks

Suppose I have a parent that has 1 to many children underneath it. If I want to display the children on a jsp page and let the user edit each child, how do I set up my struts-config file for that form since you don't know how many form elements to set up?

Hi - i'm using version 4.1 of WSAD. During the day, i can look at the processes running on my machine and the javaw.exe process just grows and grows and grows until it consumes every little piece of memory I have and I end up having to shutdown WSAD and restart. Is there anyway you can force WSAD to garbage collect more frequently than it does or is there a fixpack floating around that corrects the memory problem?

Bill - you made the "light" go off in my head. I had forgotten to set the security up within the Websphere server. Everything is working fine now.
Thanks!

ok - i've read that this doesn't work if you try to access your page with
http://localhost:8080/test.jsp - if you can't specify localhost, what do you specify on your test machine?

I'm trying to protect certain jsp pages using Form Based Authentication in Websphere version 4. I've configured a security-constraint and my url pattern is *.jsp. I've also added an auth constraint to and set up certain security roles. I've also built the loginform using the j_security_check stuff, but after I restart the server and try to access a JSP page, it will not take me to the login.html page that I've set up. Has anyone run into this problem before or have any suggestions??
