Contract market is good.. you have to know the latest in Java

Hey crew,

I'm sure you guys will help me to decide which direction to take in my career advancement.

Currently I'm employeed at a financial company in Toronto, Canada, working as a Java programmer for 4 years at this company(Weblogic/Oracle/Jbuilder/ developing web applications) . I have B.Eng and SCJP/MCP.Net. Before this I worked as a web developer for 5 years in few companies here in Toronto as well(used ASP/VB6/HTML/CSS etc).

It feels like I been in the developer/programmer area for too long and I want to move on as an Application Designer + Developer. Should I get SCJD or other certifications?

Also, I have interest in 2D/3D animation, i use maya and other animation software at home. What kind of job connects Java with 2D/3D animation? I'm interested in finding a job as a developer at an animation company. However, I don't see many jobs out there in that feild .. only financial companies seems to hire java developers to work in web application development area......

any suggestions welcome...

How did you apply for all the jobs? did you mainly relay on the job boards such as dice.com / monster.com? Are most interviews on site? or phone interviews?, if they are on site did the company pay the travel expense?

Friends, how accurate are the job postings on dice.com / monster.com? For example, salary and job description. It seems, most headhunters post wage job descriptions to collect resumes!?
