A couple of weeks ago I posted a message asking if it was possible to study enough to get a pass within a week...and I guess the answer is yes!
Well...not exactly...i did it after 10 days of study and I DEFINATELY would NOT have passed it at all if it wasn't for...
- Dan Chisholm - your questions were excellent (but SCARY...)! Thanks man!
- Marcus Green - great exam mocks dude, and extremely helpful for assessing your chances of pass / fail.
- Mughal's Book (the only book I bought - thought it was rather good)
- JWhiz exam simulator - this is quality (but not free).
And finally...
ALL THE WONDERFULLY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE ON THIS SITE! THANK YOU ALL!
Would appreciate any views on how the SCWCD compares in difficulty to SCJP because I'm thinking of doing that next...
Till then, BUCKAROOoooooooooo!!

Thanks leandro
are there any other immutable classes?
Mez
Dear fellow jolly ranchers
I'd be very grateful if someone can explain to me, or point me in the direction of, the meaning of IMMUTABILITY?
All I know, is that the String class IS immutable...but that's about it!
Cheers

Thanks guys for the response...not really sure whether to feel more or less assured! 10 years OOP? hmm...I'm only 22 with an arts degree!!
Also not sure that my firm has assessed the risks for me - its a 'consultancy' and therefore knows very little about its own capabilities!! You may however be interested to know that it is going to run courses for complete programming newbies (even those with arts degrees like myself) to sit SJCP in a four week course I think. Obviously this is for material gain, but perhaps you have some views on whther this dilutes the value of the certification? Those who pass via this route are unlikely to get high scores.
I reckon I'm gonna go for it, and just aim for the 60% or whatever the pass mark is.
As you say, i've got nothing to lose...and Jasper, who knows, once I get certified and get a chance to use the knowledge then maybe....just maybe...i might become a java lover!! *cringe*
Ok...i'm going in...cover me!
Interested to know what your opinion is on passing the scjp with just a weeks worth of full time study (about 10 hours per day).
I have very little java experience, but my company has given me this time to train and sit the exam so that I can be charged at a higher rate to clients.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of you thought this was mercenary - i do as well! But I guess its a dirtier side to the business...
I realise I'm probably not gonna get a high score, but :
1) how important is the score?
2) has anyone else out there done a fast track like this?
3) if so, can anyone recommend a bare minimum of topics required to get a pass?
4) are there any obvious things stopping me (e.g. the time it takes to get a voucher, test sitting etc)?
I realise many of you are java enthusiats and would frown on this approach, but right now for me its either this or nothing! I'd prefer to have more time, but I cannot arrange this just now.
My plan was to spend five days going through the first ten chapters in Mughal / Ramussen, and then two days doing the mock exams. IS this the best approach?
Any opinions , constructive or otherwise would be welcome!
Cheers - and by the way this site is a v good resource so congratulations to whoever started it up!!
