I am reading java.net and I can see we can use URL class to connect to any host and transfter its HTML file? why do I need that, any application from real life that required to use URL
Lets say the programm I want to write is to share files between internet users like Kazza for example. btw I do not know how RMI and CORBA work yet!!
before I go and ready what is inside java.net, I would like to hear from you
what Java can do for Networking programmers.
I can see this package is helping me to find the IP address of any host in the net, also this package can help to creat a socket etc? but my question how these tools/class can help me with my networking program? any idea where and how they are used?
I would appreciate and hint, examples, etc.
PS: I am not networking programmer

I am looking for a project to do that will help me to practice what I am learning. I do not want big project or project just focus on GUI. I want it simple and easy to understand. I want to use it for educational purpose.. I want the project to help me to practice all Java topics (intermediate + advanced), like Object, Overload, GUi, Interface, Abstract, Polymorphism, Exception, etc. I have seen some project like GNU etc but they are big and I got lost. Do you know any? thanks

Hi I want to learn these subject by myself, I do not want to take any course and that is what is better for me. I want to learn it by myself step by step with a lot of practice (I will ask help from good people like you who I owe alot already). From the first look I have got impression that I can NOT learn these topics (practice)! Why...because I have got impression that I need server, database, network, xml stuff etc to learn (by practice) these subjects. AM I right??
Subjects:
Servelet
JSP
Networking
Database
RMI
JINI
