It can be innocent .. because of climate / minor injury because of nose picking etc. but it can be a symptom of having high blood pressure... I was told by my physician that nose acts as a safety valve.. if pressure gets high... the valve opens to release it..

This company is market leader in online marketing. Its kind of midway between services and product based company.. In the sense.. they have a technology which they use to increase the internet traffic to their customer's web sites.. Its pretty interesting..
In India they have about 40+ strength they pay well... and conduct very exhaustive interviews.. typically 4 rounds..

First telephonic scanning - evaluation of general aptitude, motivation behind change etc.
Second Interaction with the team - peer and/ or sub-ordinates evaluation,
Third Telephonic technical evaluation - from US
Four - HR to discuss salary/ notice period..

We all know that US consulates refuse H1B visas through certain means. (Like 221g,....) Do they think, they have solved the problem of H1B abuse by 100%?

Is there anybody here working in consulate?

Rgds,
Shankar

This is not directly related to the topic under discussion.. but since there are so many H1B aspirant following discussions on this forum.. just wanted to point out that 221g is not visa refusal..
221g is request for additional documents / extra time sought by US consulate for "Administrative Processing" etc. Visa refusal is something different.. you can get H1B even after multiple 221g on same petition..
Many a times the visa officer interviewing you would like to use this (221g query) to check for the authenticity of your employer.. typical 221g queries are..
List of employees working in the company.. their hire date.. Is the company H1B dependent (which is by the way is legal).. company tax record.. some photographs of company office in USetc
If you are able to supply the documentary evidence which the officer is asking for, then you get H1B even after getting 221g queries..

Read Craig Larman's book on UML and patterns. (Applying UML and Patterns: An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and the Unified Process ) That will give you a good starting point.

Well I am afraid this might be bit outdated.. as it has been a long time since I lived in Mumbai..
But for hardcore non veg stuff: Bade Miya behaind Taj near Gateway. Just next to bade miya.. there is (was ??) bagdadi.. the hygene is not good.. but rule of thumb is taste is inversly proportional to hygene.. ;-) Thats why bhelpuri, panipuri tastes best on "chowpaty" :-)
In Fort area there are number of restaurants.. Sandwich stall on Dalal Street corner is very famous.. Mahesh Lunch home for sea food.. (esp. Surmai and neer dosa combo!) Irani Restaurant near fountain for omlets, bheja fry etc..
Near marin lines sea face, pizzeria for fresh pizza.. used to be chaneel V base in 90s...
Canon pavbhaji near VT.. Sardarji's paavbhaji in Taddev.. Shrikrishna wadapav in dadar.. typical "Maharastrian brahmni misal" in aswad near shivaji park dadar.. Road side franki near Shivaji park.. Gypsi/ Nebula near shivaji park.. bengali style fish in only fish near shivaji park..
Chicken Biryani in Lucky restaurant in bandra west.. natural's ice cream in Juhu, parle east, mahim.. Parle Tilak Vidyalaya's (its a school in vile Parle) wadapav.. ( No prize in guessing my school ;-) ) Ramkrishna near parle station (east) Shivsagar in Parle (east) for paavbhaji/ faluda..
list is endless... You go to khaugalli and you will get anything you want.. If you are mainly interested in ambience.. want to go on a date with someone.. (and if he is sponsoring..;-) ) then coffee shops of five stars near Juhu..

Ah.. Mumbai...

S1 is a product based company. They claim to have customer base of over thousand banks all over the world They also have a product for insurance companies.. Statefarm insurance is one of their (or only ??) main client.
If you do not have experience in product based company, then definitely consider joining S1 . at least for few years.. IMO everybody should experience the rigor of developing successful software product. You will definitely gain valuable knowledge... at the same time you will not be disappointed by the salary also..
Be warned though the work is highly streamlined.. and S1 believes in creating specialists... and you will be working on one particular part of the product and hence a particular technology.. but definitely you will be better developer/ designer / architect after joining S1

I would also advise you to look at other options.. e.g. Many european schools and even some top management schools in India are equally good and they also give you an opportunity to establish good network with right people.. and MBA is mostly about networking.. one advantage of European schools is they offer 1 year courses for MBA .. typically if you are not going for EMBA, then you will need to spend 2 years in US school.. so the opportunity cost is also significant apart from the direct cost which may run upto $100K or more.. But typically these schools, ISB, IIMA, XLRI etc expect you to have anywhere from 4-7 years of experience if you want to opt for fasttract MBA.. and you get world class offers from world class companies after completing course.. e.g. top offer last year was $181K at ISB.

Well I worked in CMC a long time back.. 6 years to be precise.. and although a lot (really a LOT) of people have travelled in Mumbai Local trains since then, I really doubt work environment in CMC has changed so much..
CMC was one of the first few IT companies started in India.. I think in mid-late 70s... and it was a public sector company.. its CEO used to be an IAS officer.. it was (still is ??) a very respectable company in India in 90s... have done some extreamlly challenging projects successfully.. Bombay Stock Exchange's online trading system (BOLT), Calcutta stock exchange, Indian Railway reservation system... to name a few..
About the work pressure/environment, It really was a fun filled and VERY demanding work environment.. I have spent many nights in office to meet deadlines.. and I (not only me.. but all my teammates) enjoyed the work a lot.. being a public sector company the pay wasn't great.. but that time money was not a major criteria for me.. being fresh out of college.. wanted to get as much experience / exposure as possible... and god's grace I was rewarded quite handsomely .. :-)
Enought nostalgia.. :-) Now CMC is taken over by TCS.. but still has maintained its own identity.. ( according to some oldtimers working in CMC) most of the top management has left but still barring a few policies (like sponsoring GC in US) much of the work culture is same.. I do not have up to date information about the pay and all.. but its a good place to work if you want exposure to large projects (atleast in CMC- Mumbai)

I have seen onsite-offshore model being successful. I was part of their transition team 3 years back.. It was a midsized US based company. When in 2001 they decided to offshore their work, they did careful planning
They had build their own framework, platform which they use for all their projects with some customization.. One of their very senior person came to India and trained offshore team for 1 month.. It was regular classroom training.. theory in morning session followed by assignment in the afternoon session.. one month training was followed by 1 week assignment.. all the team members assignments were carefully checked.. then the guy had one on one talk with each tem member..he then picked leaders from the gang and assigned them their team.. then all the team was flown to US for 3 months on the job training.. within 3 months everybody was very well aware of the process, standards, quality gates etc.. they also got to know their counterparts in US and vice versa.. then after 3 months the team was again flown back to India in phases.. once in India.. Team leaders were responsible for the work allocated to their team.. there were obviously weekly meetings, daily status reports, use of yahoo/msn/aol messenger for quick communication / net meetings.. this was complemented by good HR policies like spot awards for team member at /above par compensation, reasonable work pressure etc..
The end result was very agreeable to the onsite company as well as their off shore partner.. so much so that they are now in the 4th year in operation.. And no it was not some repetitive job.. it was latest technology job involving integration with lot of other systems..

The point is offshore projects run a risk of failure because of communication gap which can be eliminated if planning is done properly and execution is done sincerely.. but they dont fail because the quality of offshore work is poor..

I think the quality is affected by "inexperienced" team as against "offshore" team. And IMO its not correct to generalize the quality of work based on the geography. You can get good results from any team provided you ensure that team members are competent enough. Even if you are outsourcing your work to CMM level 5 company, you can always ask for a brief technical chat with the team before you actually give them any work. But thats true for onsite teams as well as offshore teams.
One reason why the offshore team gives poor quality only because it sits on the other side of ocean is because of communication gap. It may not be possible to communicate your expectations / standards / processes / quality gates etc effectively to your team members who are 5000 miles and 10 hours away from you but then again these can be eliminated by careful transition plan

Use your contacts.. talk to your friends.. ask contact information of couple of employees to the employer.. talk with them..

Couple of signs that shows the employer/consultant is not creditable..

He asks to pay you for your visa
He pays for your visa but asks you to give him your original documents

I would not advise anybody to join such companies.
