I am also using XP, I was wondering if maybe my install was not correct..
even though I have no problem running JSPs and Servlets...
Is there a special setting configuration that I need to use?
I believe the System.out.println is supposed to show up in
the "Start Tomcat" window...I have System.out.println scattered all
throughout my beans but I don't see anything in the console window...
I really appreciate your help,
Thanks,
Nick Ueda

Hello Everyone,
I need an a straight answer to a problem that I am having with
Tomcat 4.1.27. I have been told that whenever I am trying to
debug my web apps that I can use System.out.println in the beans and servlets to trace what is going on and that the output of these messages would be sent to standard output(console). I have tried this and I don't see any output at all. I have looked through the logs directory in stdout.txt and the messages aren't being sent there either.
Can anyone please tell me how this is done?
This is very important for me to know so I can debug my
application.
Thank You All Very Much,

Hello all,
I have some code which is supposed to simply strip all the html source
off of a page and output it to the console.

But for some reason I can't explain, it won't work properly...it just
runs and doesn't display anything.
I works with some sites like http://www.netscape.com but not sites like
http://www.yahoo.com
why is this and is there a way to get this piece of
code to work universally?
Thanks,

Hello all,
As of right now I do not like abstract classes...I don't see the point of making a class that has to have the methods implemented by the user.
How is the programmer supposed to know how to implement the methods?
Can someone please correct me and tell me why abstract classes are such a wonderful feature of Java?
Thanks,

Lasse,
By saying metadata do you mean a "reference" to the raw html on disk?
And by saying raw html do you mean the actual html file?
I was just wanting to get these terms straight.
In reply to your question:
I don't know...storing the content in a StringBuffer is the first
thing I thought of. I bet the way you suggested could very well
be alot easier.
Thanks,

Hello,
I am storing massive (>15,000) character StringBuffers (basically html files) into a mySQL database...I was wondering if it would be better to use a CLOB to store it in or to use a BLOB? I was thinking CLOB because
i could easily get it out of the database back to StringBuffer and use it in my java application.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello All!
How do I load queries from a text file in mySQL?
Thanks,
Nick Ueda
EDIT: After this post I found the answer quite easily...
at mysql> prompt
type: source <filename>
that's all,
Nick

I apologize, in my actual code there is an index i being supplied to the method, I was tired and accidentally left it out while typing.
Does anybody else have any other suggestions?
Thanks,

I am trying to make a structure out of a class.
Here is what I am doing

Then I am storing it in an user created object of html_db using the collection arrayList.

Basically whenever I try to retrieve any data like this:

All I get is blank entries.
filename:
urlname:
filename:
urlname:
filename:
urlname:
filename:
urlname:
filename:
urlname:
I don't know if maybe everytime a new Entry is created it is overwriting
the previous one even if it is already in the html_db.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello all!
Does a class have to be a JavaBean for it to run in a JSP?
Or can I declare classes and call methods just like in a normal application?
Thanks,

JSP
Is there a find method for String or StringBuffer?
I am trying to find a certain substring in a bigger string...
Say I had
String HTMLStr = "<A HREF="bachelors.html" > Get Your Degree </A>";
is there a method for finding a substring like:
HTMLStr.find("html.\""); which returns a string value?
thanks,

I am trying to write some code that will grab HTML
off of a webpage and store it...the problem is that I am
using an int called character and casting it to char...
I am trying to get the code line by line no char by char
so I wanted to store the whole html file in a string...
but it doesn't work....
here is what I have so far...

Any suggestions?
