Hello,

I am using a signed applet (self-signed) to read files from a clients machine (local file system). Following is the code for buffered reading (the meat):

String thisLine, ret = "";
try{
BufferedReader myInput = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fn));
while ((thisLine = myInput.readLine()) != null) {
ret += thisLine + "\n";
}
myInput.close();
}
catch (Exception e) {
ret = "Cannot load, exception!";
}

When I read a file <= 512KB, it runs fine/as expected. Now, when I read a file, say for example 1024KB in size, I expect the application to take twice as much time (than 512KB file) and read the file, but instead the applet/browser hangs. As a matter of fact I am not able to read files > 512KB.

So, is there a limit on file size (from local file system) when reading from an applet, or is it to do with the way I am reading it?

Any help, suggestions or comments would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have the latest Java3D and JAI library installed on my Mac. As a matter of fact, problem exists with the entire application and not just the graphics rendering.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Hello,

I am new to the Macintosh environment and was wondering if someone could help me here.

I have written a java application (stand-alone) on a Windows platform. The application is computation intensive and uses Java3D APIs to render 3D objects. Also, the application uses JSci APIs to render 2D graphs and has a number of other features, which use extremely large arrays. The application is built using Swing APIs whereever possible.

Now, when I run the application (jar) on a Windows platform (XP), it runs fine as expected. However, when I run the same application on Mac OS X (10.3.5), it runs extremely slow, takes ages to render 3D objects or to do anything as a matter a fact.

In summary, the application runs much much faster on Windows (Intel P4 - 1.4 GHz, 768MB RAM) as compared to running it on a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with 1GB RAM. This does not make sense to me.

Any insight/help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have created an applet which runs fine (does all the functionalities) when using appletviewer, but doesn't perform some of the tasks (which needs a set of APIs from a package I have imported) when using Internet Explorer. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
