Sorry guys,

I actually want to know what an application server is, not just JBoss. Just what it does and how it can help my orginization.

thank you
Thank you for the quick response.

I don't have access to the site. I can only see javaranch. They are very strict here. Please can you explain in a little detail what it does and why?

Thank you
Hey guys,

Can someone please explain to me what JBoss is and how it can benefit an organization? I really don't have a clue. I have limited internet access so I can't look it up on the web.

Thank you

Were you expecting the .class files to be encrypted? The situation would be the same in any other language, not just Java. If you compile sensitive data into an executable form, that data will be trivially easy to extract. Instead, either encrypt the stored data, in which case the user would have to enter a key to allow the data to be decrypted, or simply require the user to supply the password itself at runtime.
Thank you Ernest.
The password is set before the time and only our company knows what it is. So setting it at compile time isn't possible. Any other ideas?

Hi all,
I came across a very weird thing today. I have a class that holds all the variables that gets used all over the application, eg. the database password and username.
But today I opened a class file with Wordpad and when I do a search for the password it is there, along with the username.
Why is this? And is there a way of stopping it?

Thanks guys
i came right
here is the method i used
//panel1 = panel
//scroll = scrollpane
JComponent c = (JComponent)source;
if ( ! c.isShowing())
return;

int ipanel1Y = panel1.getLocationOnScreen().y;
int iComponentY = c.getLocationOnScreen().y;
int iComponentTop = iComponentY - ipanel1Y;
int iTarget = iComponentTop - SCROLLTO_FROMTOP;

int iscrollY = scroll.getLocationOnScreen().y;
int iscrollTop = iscrollY - ipanel1Y;
int iscrollBottom = iscrollTop + scroll.getSize().height;

intiScrollMargin = 100;

JScrollBar bar = scroll.getVerticalScrollBar();

if (iComponentTop < (iscrollTop + iScrollMargin) ||
iComponentTop > (iscrollBottom - iScrollMargin)
)
{
int iCurY = bar.getValue();
int iDiff = iCurY - iTarget;

if (iDiff > 500 || iDiff < -500){
bar.setValue(iCurY);
}
else
{
while (iCurY != iTarget)
{
if (iCurY < iTarget){
iCurY += SCROLL_INCREMENT;
}
else{
iCurY -= SCROLL_INCREMENT;
}

if ( (iCurY - iTarget > 0 && iCurY - iTarget < SCROLL_INCREMENT) ||
(iCurY - iTarget < 0 && iTarget - iCurY < SCROLL_INCREMENT)){
iCurY = iTarget;
}
bar.setValue(iCurY);
}
}
}

Yes David,
it is a method call to the servlet that isn't found. When you restart the machine all servlets are found. Then everything works fine.
I want to know why it doesnt find the servlet in the beginning?

Hi all,
I'm writing an application that lists tasks for users. These tasks have a follow up date of 24 hours. What would be the best way to check whether the time for following up on a task has expired?

Hi all,
I've got a JApplet with a JTabbedPane inside. Every different tab contains a JTable with data from different databases. The problem I have is that everytime a tab gets selected its like the tab refreshes everything on its visible space. Is there a way i can get this "flickering" away?
Thanks in advance

This machine doesn't pull down the latest software from the server. Is that part of the piece above?
