Both have small marketing offices. I hear Wipro has some developement facility in New Bombay - no idea about size etc. Don't think Satyam has a developement facility in Mumbai. Having said that, Satyam has some specific requirements for persons with that level of exp (considering your 8.5yrs exp) - in technical consulting kind of work. These are based at Mumbai.

Me: Kaustabh, I happened to hear abt 1 thumb-rule that MNCs tend to pay 30% more than the top Indian companies. Ain't that true??

This is in part true. However, this doesn't paint the whole picture. The attritrion rate is very high (i mean high - knowing the attrition rate of s/w cos in general) in most of these MNCs. I've myself seen many people from Accenture, Cap Gemini quitting within 4-6 months. Though I don't have first-hand knowledge, the reasons sited by some are lack of growth opportunities, dissatisfaction about company policy etc. There could be other reasons - try to get first hand knowledge from someone who has worked in those companies.

The general outlook is that if you are looking at a stable job, you are OK with having somewhat fewer growth opportunities, then YES, there are lot of good companies in Mumbai.
However, if you are looking at growth, (mainly), then very limited options are there.

Hello all,

I was a fresher working with Infosys India Pvt. Ltd. I had signed their
1
year contract or bond. I left the company after 6 months to pursue
higher
studies. I have got a letter from infy asking me to pay Rs. 1,00,000
for
breaking the bond.

I want to know:
If this bond is legal, admissible in the court?
It was not on a stamp paper, though it was stamped by a notary.
Will I have to pay the money? What are the consequences if I dont pay
it?
What legal action can be taken against me?
Have you come across such a case of bond breaking by a fresher in infy
or
any other company? Has anybody been convicted or has paid the money?

Please let me know as much as possible and as soon as possible.
I will be waiting for your replies.

Thanks a lot,
Bond

Well, yes - the contract which you sign with Infy is very much valid legally.
Having said that, I've seen one case where after signing the contract, the person quit within 4 months. He received a lot of letters from Infy, but was not asked to pay the bond sum.

Mind you, I'm not saying that the case will not be pursued by company.

Oooh !! 900K INR for a guy with 4yrs exp !
I must say these are exceptionally rare exceptions. Believe me, this figure is highly exaggerated. Or, is it that something about the candidate's profile was left out of context - like an MBA degree or returning from overseas office of an MNC ?

I've seen a couple of guys who completed their MS, joined HP/Intel in US and then opted to come to India office. With total exp of around 4yrs after MS, they have got figures like 9-10 L INR p.a.

my own exp is 5 1/2 yrs and my package is little over 7.5L. I've worked in 3 diff companies 3 cities in last 2 years : B'lore, Chennai, Mumbai - that is Bombay). 2 out of these 3 cos are $1 billion club companies and the other one is around $150M. I've also seen around 5-6 of closest friends changing jobs - but I've never seen or heard anyone getting those kind of figures.

No, IBM doesn't have a software development facility in Mumbai.

I might be little late in entering this thread, but ..as an ex-Infosys employee + exp with 3other companies --- heres my 2cents

Anyone just graduating from college shud get these facts clear :
If you enter a biggie co like Infosys, it is envitable that you'll have your share of 'chore' work (aka 'maintenance'). However, what you should remember is that in these organisations, there are always opportunities for doing some good work.

On the other hand, in smaller companies, just as it is possible to get very good work, it is equally (rather more) probable to be stuck in projects involving outdated technologies, projects being executed very inefficiently.

Counting the other advantages natural to big companies - better processes etc, I'd say that spending a year or two in a big organization is definitely worth it.

I agree with manish that if you are not satisfied with what you are doing between your job hours then it is not going to help in long terms.

Job scene is pretty decent both in Pune/B'lore.
For 4yrs + SCJP + Japanese, you should be able to land quite a few offers.
There's quite a bit of interest in Asia-pac markets-- knowledge of Japanese should be a big plus.
