Sounds like trying to learn this language is going to be fun then. Thanks for your help again.

Paul Clapham wrote:Apparently you didn't continue with the step where you import the UIManager class from whatever package it belongs to. Likewise the Font class.

Thank you Paul. You have saved me from having a stroke. I was getting tired of trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Can I ask you another question if you don't mind.

How do you know when you need to add a important declaration (hope I am saying it right)??? Do you have to import all classes?

Hello, as you can see I have a Java program that runs.

And according to the book I'm reading, the author says he was able to include this additional code without any problems. Well I'm not sure exactly what he did to get it to compile. I have tried adding several things, but I keep getting the following errors:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problems:
UIManager cannot be resolved
Font cannot be resolved to a type
Font cannot be resolved to a variable
Syntax error, insert ";" to complete Statement

at Authenticator.main(Authenticator.java:10)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to develop a Java program that will play a particular song depending on what the person chose from a drop-down list. My question is can the Java programming language be programmed to play an MP3 (MPEG-3) or a windows media audio (WMA) file. If not then what can be used instead of MP3 or WMA? Thanks ahead for any responses.

Hi to anyone who reads this I am trying to build 2 programs. The 1st program, called MailOrderWrite, is suppose to allow you to enter data and save it to a file called info.txt which seems to work fine as far as to my knowledge about Java programming. The 2nd program, called MailOrderRead, is suppose to grab the information from the txt file and display it appropriately in the two boxes. That is where I seem to be having my problem. Its displaying an odd result in only 1 of the boxes like 889193265. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

I'm creating a program that will save what the user enters into a file and in the end check to see if what the user typed in is correct and have it display whether or not it is correct. My problem is I created a JComboBox and I'm wanting to save whatever the user clicked on in the JComboBox and its giving me this error:

C:\Documents and Settings\sth-g200\Desktop\BillPayer.java:180: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : method writeUTF (java.lang.Object)
location: class java.io.DataOutputStream
output.writeUTF(pmt.getSelectedItem());

If anyone can take a look at my code and point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi I was wondering if anybody could tell me why nothing is showing up inside the window?

import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;

public class JDemoResistance extends JFrame implements ActionListener
{
JButton pushButton1 = new JButton();
JLabel reason1 = new JLabel("Too expensive.");
JButton pushButton2 = new JButton();
JLabel reason2 = new JLabel("Not exactly what you need.");
JButton pushButton3 = new JButton();
JLabel reason3 = new JLabel("Took to long to develop.");
JButton pushButton4 = new JButton();
JLabel reason4 = new JLabel("Found a better program.");
JButton pushButton5 = new JButton();
JLabel reason5 = new JLabel("Got caught and had to buy the wife/girlfriend something.");

public JDemoResistance()
{
setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
JPanel pane = new JPanel();
pane.add(pushButton1, reason1);
pane.add(pushButton2, reason2);
pane.add(pushButton3, reason3);
pane.add(pushButton4, reason4);
pane.add(pushButton5, reason5);
setContentPane(pane);
pushButton1.addActionListener(this);
pushButton2.addActionListener(this);

pushButton4.addActionListener(this);
pushButton5.addActionListener(this);
}

public static void main(String[] args)
{
JFrame aFrame = new JFrame("Reasons a customer might not buy your product.");
aFrame.setSize(500,450);
aFrame.setVisible(true);
}

Ok thank you for the help and the lecture. For those of you who lectured me I didn't mean to give the impression I was stealing code from somebody. The class file I got this from is from the same company that my company is working on redesigning their website and who owns the copyright to it and I'm merely just editing it with everyone's approval. Surely if I actually did stole this code from someone I wouldn't be stupid enough to say that I did.

Hey I got a problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm still fairly new to Java, but this problem I feel is definitely for you advance people who I hope will kindly point me in the right direction. I'm an Intern and working for someone on creating a website for them and they asked me to create a counter for them and they aren't giving me much time so I figure the best route would be to decompile the class file to go from there. Well in decompiling it didn't do it correctly and I'm really hoping someone can help me out so to get to the point does anyone know what the heck is "0xb2d05e00L" below is all of the source code that hopefully will help you to better understand it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Matt
