Thanks, Peter,

It's nice to know somebody is there. I've removed the xerces, xalan or stax jars from my war and used the ones in lib/endorsed and it still happens. I deleted all the jars and am adding them back in one at a time until I find the one that triggers this.

Check the post you referred to. He and I have both done everything the docs say to try and nothing has worked. Maybe JBoss 5's new classloader is configurable, but the configurations they've said to use get other errors. And their tool kickstarts don't work either.

I removed the xercesImpl.jar from JBoss' lib/endorsed directory in order to get the Spring applicationContext.xml file to parse and now when it's loading the JSF stuff, I get this error:

Anybody know how to fix this?

Having used this post as my starting point, I overloaded hashCode in my key class and containsKey still didn't work. After much thrashing, I realized that I had (in the C++ canonical style to which I am accustomed) defined my equals method to take an argument of myKeyObject instead of Object. Since I had written my equals method before I read these threads (thanks, Ernest and others for patiently answering the recurring questions about hashMaps), I kept looking at it and seeing it matching the signature in the examples, which of course, it didn't.

Just posting it here for future reference.

I have both Eclipse and VS2005 on my laptop and I can't seem to make Windows Explorer associate java files with anything except VJ# and it takes too long for that sucker to load. Tools/Folder Options/File Types doesn't seem to do it...

Never mind, apparently select returning with no data is a long standing problem.

I have an application that controls our test boxes, which have one TCP/IP port and two UDP ports to be monitored. The test box is the TCP socket server, written in MS VC++; my app is the client, uses java.nio.channels.SocketChannel in non-blocking mode on the TCP port and java.net.DatagramSockets in blocking mode on the UDP ports. J-sprint said that the select for the TCP port was taking 60% CPU and the receive on the UDP ports was taking 30% and 5%. I used JAMon and a 7-minute test that sent 40 legit messages to the server and got 40 responses from the server and yet the SocketChannel.select woke up 24,601,980 times. Wanting to blame the MS server socket , I wrote a quickie fake server using java.nio.channels.ServerSocketChannel and this is what JAMon reported:

server: Hits=10, Avg=3670ms, Total=36703ms, Min=1406ms, Max=6453ms
client: Hits=10606, Avg=0ms, Total=187ms, Min=0ms, Max=16ms

Why would a SocketChannel.select constantly wake up with 0 channels ready while the ServerSocketChannel.select only woke up when it had something to do?
