I have a very simple JSF page.

It does a search on a keyword (name). It gets a list of employees.
It displays the list as a radio button list. I select the employee and then click on a button Select. It should simply put the employee id into a session variable and redirect to another page. The PROBLEM is that it just doesnt even go to the action method.

Ok so I tried to paste the jsp but apparently the forum does NOT accept the less than tags and so many other things! ... no wonder there are so few posts on the forum.

Here is the jsp:
OK I cannot paste the bloody jsp code because the filter blocks it and asks me to replace the greater than and less than symbols! no matter if there is not one for miles! please email me for the code!

This forum is not going to last if it is so annoying.

--

And the java bean code:
it will not even accept the java code
--

here is the config file:
same with the xml of the config file! how futile!

--

I tried another method using valueChangeListener="SearchEmployee.insertSigner" immediate="true" on the radiolist but it returns to the same page. A workaround is IF I put a dummy value in the employeeList in its getEmployeeList method.

But that simply means it is not reacting well to an empty list. The list is generated dynamically, when it is a static list or preconfigured list things work fine, but come on! we can expect a dynamically generated radiolist to work.

This ought to be predictable and simple and it ought to work, but it doesnt.

I am excited about the prospect of using EJB 3.0 on JBOSS.

I have some questions however.
1) Is it possible to use Spring/Struts and Hibernate on JBoss?
2) Is it possible to use EJB3.0 and elements of Spring on JBoss?

My goal is to be able to use the most configurable variations of these (I tried hibernate 3.0 and its PAINFUL to configure it to run with the simplest of dbs) Are any of the aforementioned technologies mutually exclusive?

I know Struts and Spring and Hibernate are viable together (but EJB 2.0 and Spring are not).

Is it worth the effort to try to install JBoss/ learn it and use it if I am NOT going to be touching EJB 3.0? Since I could make struts/spring/hibernate interoperate on a leaner app server like tomcat.

Dear Mr. Kushner,

I bought the book titled : Developing J2EE applications with Websphere Studio.

Where can I find some sample code ?

I have no way of getting in touch with you so I am posting this to the forum.

please email me if you have a used HFEJB book to sell.

I was thinking of financial costs of putting something up that rivals the quality produced by Mr. Zaikin. But I guess it would also entail having the expertise rivalling that of Mr. Zaikin.

I will think about putting up a rough draft of my own notes one of these days.
I don't think I have the expertise or the resources (financial). Atleast not yet.

Mikalai Zaikin is doing a fine job of it by the way and for that may God bless the beautiful people of Belarus and such a fine person as Mikalai.

In the interim if anyone has any study notes that they would not mind sharing I would be very grateful.
Dear Friends,

Has anyone compiled a study guide or a notes that one could go over by the objectives ?

It would be a great time saver.
Dear folks,

I have the following question, I am trying to understand JSPContext. Is it like ServletContext that various copies of the same JSP run under the same JSPContext ? just like various copies of the same servlet run under the same servlet context (or app context)? How would I visualize it or place it in terms of architecture ?

How is pagecontext similar to servletConfig? Each JSP has a page context just like each copy of a servlet has its own servletConfig.
Which material does it cover 310 080 or 310 081?
It worked. I figured it out and this is the new web.xml file. I don't know what the difference is between the two but this version worked somehow:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<!DOCTYPE web-app
PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
"http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">

<web-app>

<display-name>Head First Servlets Chapter 1 Servlet</display-name>
<description>
An application for testing servlets and JSP
</description>

<servlet>
<servlet-name>Example2</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>Ch1Servlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>Example2</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/Serv1</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

</web-app>

By the way I used coreservlets's configuration tutorial and have the servlet invoker uncommented. I don't know if that is causing the problem.

It would be great if the source code was available with the book along with the preconfigured tomcat or j2ee appservers on the website. That would prevent me from wasting HOURS upon hours on simple examples that ought to work but don't because not all of us know the mysteries of some impossible container like tomcat (and ofcourse since its "FREE" its justifiable that hours of our lives be wasted away on this).

Dear List,

I am using Tomcat jakarta-tomcat-5.0.24 and I tried putting the example on page 30 into the webapp folder as directed on page 30 of HFEJB.

However whenever I type the url
http://localhost:8008/ch1/Serv1 I get :

HTTP Status 404 - /ch1/Serv1

------------------------------------

type Status report

message /ch1/Serv1

description The requested resource (/ch1/Serv1) is not available.

-----------------------

Apache Tomcat/5.0.24

Here is the thing, whenever I put the servlet class in the "servlets-examples" folder (that came with Tomcat) and then access the servlet with the class name specified I can access it fine and it works however I have been unable to make Tomcat recognize my web.xml file's descriptor settings which are :

<web-app xmlns=""http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/xmlSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
version="2.4">

<servlet>
<servlet-name>Chapter1 Servlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>Ch1Servlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>Chapter1 Servlet</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/Serv1</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

</web-app>

My java code by the way works its just that Tomcat 5.0.24 is not picking up the web.xml file from the following path : C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.24\webapps\ch1\WEB-INF

Any ideas what could be the problem?

I have the following goal: to work with websphere in an enterprise environment.

My predicament: I am torn between 285, 286, 287:

IBM Certified Associate Developer (Test 285) :
+ There is ample study material for it and I know I can easily give this test.
- I don't see much value in the test.

IBM Certified Solutions Developer (Test 285) :
+ I have the SCJP requirement for this.
- There is absolutely no focused book or reading material except an entire redbook or two.
- I have not prior experience with Websphere so I this seems most intimidating.

IBM Certified Enterprise Developer (Test 287) :
+ There is ample reading material though there are no focused forums like for SCBCD or SCJP.
- There is a feeling that even if I give 287 I will not feel "complete" until all the other two tests are also given (on UML and OO and J2EE connectivity).

I have two weeks within which to give and pass one of the above. Is there any more information (pros and cons) that I need to consider)?

By prerequisites I mean do we have to give IBM 285 or the UML/OO exams before 287?

My dear fellows,

I write for the second time if there are any prerequisites for the IBM 287. I did search the forums and go to the IBM webpage and then come to the conclusion that there is not included such information.

Either the prerequisite does not exit BUT is not explicitly stated anywhere or I have missed that critical piece of information.
