Thanks John for your thoughts !!
Hi All,

I have a requirement for a simple web application. Need to query data (with search criteria entered in page) and display results. Hierarchical navigation may be required from one record to related record in another table. Exporting/Charting of data might be required in future.

I need suggestions from you on the java framework combinations to use especially on the UI side (like JSF or Struts 2).Your suggestions are highly appreciated.

We already use the following technologies in our projects (looking to leverage them): Geronimo server, EJB 3.0 and JPA.

Thank you
Karthik Kannan
Thanks to the experts for giving wise suggestions...
I would join in this job very soon...My new employer will be none other than the vendor of these products...

Hi Ranchers,

i am a j2ee web programmer having 3 years of exp (only in java, j2ee)...and have worked in developing couple of web services in SOA environment....i have been working for a reputed company in chennai...

recently, i got a job offer from a big MNC (bangalore) to work for some SOA and middleware projects...
regarding job profile: initially, i would be given training in websphere process server, writing of business processes, development of web services and also some instructions on usage of an IDE (something related to WPS)...

i request you folks to give your suggestions on this job profile...i'm less bothered about relocation, salary and company...i would like to know the future prospects of working in middleware/SOA esp. in Websphere Process Server...please tell me whether it is a wise decision to move from j2ee to middleware technologies....

Thanks in advance,
Karthik

Hi,

Our project requirement is to create a java application and run it as a service (daemon) in Solaris. We used Java Service Wrapper to make a java app as a daemon process. The wrapper takes care of creating the daemon process (including file permission, executable scripts, etc.).

We are using Reflection (Xterm via Telnet) to connect to the Solaris box and start the service from there. The problem is that when we close the Xterm window, the deamon process gets killed.
We wanted the service to be alive even after closing the Xterm.

Any solutions to this..

Thanks in advance...

Hi all,
We are developing a network management desktop application using Java Swing. Obviously, the network operations are done as separate threads. I doubt whether we can use the ordinary Thread class for implementing the threads, or to use SwingWorker thread.

My Questions are:
B]When to use SwingWorker class and Thread class? What is the purpose of SwingWorker when we have Thread class?[/B]

Thanks and Regards,

Hi HuiGe,

FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream("configFile");

this will work only if the file is in your current working directory.
i believe the file should be in your WEB-INF/classes folder.

or the other way...
you can specify the real path of the file using..

this.getServletContext().getRealPath("/");

this will return your servlet context path eg.. http://host/contextPath/, where contextPath is the context path of this ServletContext.

then append the file name with the path.. in your case it should be
String fPath = this.getServletContext().getRealPath("/") + "WEB-INF/configFile";

Think experts will come out with more suggestions...

I developed a web application that has only jsps and some supporting java classes.

jsps deal with displaying charts (jfreechart) based on data from the DB. Each jsp opens a connection and creates a chart. There are only 3 jsps which are of the above mentioned type.

the application is working fine in my system.

when it is launched in a public ip, the application becomes very slow.

Can anybody tell me why this performance problem arises? is it due to DB operation or IO operation
Tell me ways to solve it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
We developed a set of components in java for updating records in tables in DB.
The process goes like this...
1. fetch input data through a HashMap
2. fetch nearly 200 rows one by one to get the updating factor (some delta)
3. put all the processed data in an ArrayList
4. persist the ArrayList objects

The program is working fine. But taking more time to execute.
What i mean to say is there are some performance issues. Is it due to concurrent fetching of data from the database or using bulky ArrayList objects (nearly 6000).

Help me Guys...

Thanks in advance...

Hi all,

I have some basic knowledge in creating web services in java.

I want to create a web service that would return an ArrayList containing a list of user defined java objects.

I hope that this is possible.

But i don't know what are the additional things that have to be included in creating (deploying) the web service.

Does this supports interoperability with .NET

Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody,
I'm a young software professional having 8 months of programming experience in web technologies of java. At this time, i'ld like to go for sun certification.

There are lot of certifications - SCJP, SCJD, SCWCD, SCBCD, SCDJWS, .. that i have heard of.

But i don't know from where i should start. i'm more interested in XML and web services.

Can somebody guide me out in building my career.

Thanks in Advance.

With regards,
Karthik K.
