Hi,
I recently came to know about CML2 (Configuration Menu Language), a Python based language, designed to support Linux kernel configuration. It is said to be integrated in Linux kernel 2.5.x.
Id like to know whether CML2 is being used in commercial applications presently and how. Id highly appreciate responses from knowledgeable professionals, having hands-on experience with this language.

Hi,
I am trying to enhance overall performance of my Linux box and want to know what are the major modifications one can make to the kernel (version 2.4) to achieve this end.
Can somebody suggest a good source online that can give me a list of such kernel options and their recommended values?

I am about to configure and compile my Linux kernel v2.2.4 (Redhat Linux 6.2) for the first time. I want to know whether there are any tools (GUI-based) that automate the process, or at least make it easy to handle for a first-timer?
Regards.

Hello,
I’ve developed a desktop application written in Java and am going to put it on CDs to distribute it to my clients. I want to provide everything necessary to run my application on that CD, so that they don’t have to download or install anything from elsewhere. The clients use Windows 98 platform, with no JDK or JRE installed on their machines.
I want to know what should be put on that CD, other than package containing my application’s classes and user manuals? Should I provide both JDK and JRE, or only JRE is enough to run the application?
Also, I’ll really appreciate it if u can suggest a packaging tool for Java application that works like MS Visual Studio, creating all necessary things and packaging an application for installing.

Hi,
I’ve a Red Hat 6.2 Linux box in my office. On booting, the system echoes following information.
………
Partition check
hda: hda1 hda2 < hda5 > hda3 hda4
…….(more msgs)
Loading default keymap
Activating swap partitions swapon : /dev/hda4 : Invalid argument
swapon : /dev/hda4 : Invalid argument[FAILED]
Setting hostname miniature
Checking root filesystem
/dev/hda3 : clean, 59737 / 235200 files, 230849 / 469893 blocks [OK]
………..
Do these messages say that I have a hard drive/ partition named /dev/hda4? If yes, where is it located? When I give command df –h, I get following info.
$df –h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use Mounted on
/dev/hda3 1.8G 873M 842M 71% /
If I do have a hard drive/ partition /dev/hda4, then why don’t I see it listed in the list above? Could it be that such a drive/partition does exist, but remains unused since it is unmounted, for whatever reasons? If unmounted, how can I mount it?
Please help me solve this mystery.
Thanx & regards

Feedback : Error fixed
Hi Frank & Guy,
Thanks for helping me out. Special thanks to Guy for the ‘detailed explanation’ on impact of ‘heads coming down’ 8-).
For the record, e2fsck did the job (heads came down really easy 8-) ). I logged in as root and gave the following command:
$e2fsck /dev/hda3
Then it asked many questions about repairing and fixing inodes, and I kept answering them with ‘yes’. In the end I got this message:
/dev/hda3: ***FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED***
/dev/hda3: 59266/235200 files (0.2% non-contiguous), 229723/469893 blocks.
Then I rebooted the system, and it started without any errors.
Thanks again to both of u.

Help needed urgently!
Hi,
I use Red Hat 6.2 Linux. Recently, after sudden shutdown due to an unexpected power failure my machine failed to start Linux properly. The boot process halts after showing the following error message:
Setting hostname dexter
Checking root file system
/dev/hda3 contains a file system with errors, check forced.
/dev/hda3 :
Directory inode 35302, block 0, offset 0 : directory currupted.
/dev/hda3 : UNEXPECTED INCONSISTANCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)
[FAILED]
***An error occurred during the file system check.
***Dropping you to a shell, the system will reboot
***when you leave the shell.
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal startup) :

Here I logged in giving root password and then ran fsck. But it didn't correct the file system error. And Control-D doesn't give normal startup. What should I do to solve this problem? Please help.

Hello,
I m trying to develop an java application that interacts with database using Castor JDO API(www.castor.exolab.org/jdo.html). I m doing this because I want to write code in the Java that transparently accesses the underlying data store, without using database-specific code. I also want to hide the database implementation in such a way that any changes to database structure should not affect the code accessing it.
But Castor JDO doesn't use connection caching/pooling, that is necessary to optimise the performance of my application. Does someone know aboput a workaround for Castor JDO or a good alternative to Castor JDO that uses connection caching/pooling? Please help.

Though u can't set the thickness of border to make it disappear(there is no such method in java.awt package), u can always set the background color of java.awt.TextArea object using its method of TextArea :-
public void setBackground(Color c)
to match the background color of applet. U can also set the background color of the applet so that both colors match.

Thank you very much! You gave me clue to solve my problem. Actually I am using an application which allowes to run .bat files as Post-processing after a specific action. It required the CLASSPATH setting of system to modified to include the directory containin file Transform1.class. I was setting the classpath manually in only one session, when I was executing the .bat file from command line where it worked fine. But it didn't work when the application fired the execution of .bat, becoz CLASSPATH was not set. Now I changed the settings & my application is working fine. Than you again.
