Hi I'm very sorry for the delayed reply, didn't have internet the past few days, anyway the reason why I can't directly do this: Why cant you do Window.open(" http://localhost:8080/docs_for_preview/result") is because I am not only using my localhost as the container for the application. I am deploying it in some other server and I wouldn't be able to hardcode this: localhost:8080 in there. I am also launching the my_app application, remember in my directory:

TOMCAT
- webapps
-- docs_for_preview
-- my_app

and so, when Window.open launches, it launches via the context root: http://hostt:port/my_app/docs_for_preview/result which does not work since docs_for_preview is outside of my_app. What can I do such that even if Window.open is called from my_app, it can still call dynamically go back to http://host:port/docs_for_preview?

Thanks!!!

well basically, docs_for_preview is not an app, it's just a directory I don't want to put inside my_app so as not to overwrite it whenever I deploy, now if I do just this:

Window.open("/docs_for_preview/result");

my browser would open to: http://localhost:8080/my_app/docs_for_preview/result which I don't want since docs_for preview is outside of my app. now this

Window.open("/../docs_for_preview/result");

opens to http://localhost:8080/docs_for_preview/result which I want but not for IE 6, is there a way to do this in IE 6?

thanks!

GWT
yes, I would think so, I wanted to reach the folder docs_for_preview which is in the same level as where my_app is (my_app is where I call Window.open(..)). I assumed that using the characters "/../" would solve it, since i just have to go one level up from my_app and then I can access docs_for_preview. It worked for others but IE 6 keeps taking "/../" as a literal and treats it as if it's a folder name, i'm not sure why. is there a way to do this in IE 6 that would also do the same for all the other browsers?

Thanks a lot for all your help, I'm sorry if I keep repeating my explanation, just wanted to make sure I get it across.

Thanks!!!

yes if i use IE6 and just remove the excess /../ i can access it.

oh sorry, result is just a string which contains the filename of the file i want to view so in this case, result = "/docs_for_preview/filename", i tried result = "/../docs_for_preview/filename" but still ie6 recognizes the "/../" as a literal string rather than to push the directory one level up

hello,

I'm trying to open a file outside of my current application, now it works in all browsers except for IE 6. May I know what I should do for this? (I'm not sure if this is the best section to post into - but i'm using GWT and I don't know where else to ask - I really hope you could help me...)

This is my current directory structure

Tomcat
- webapps
-- docs_for_preview
-- my_app

now i used this code:

so that i could open the files under docs_for_preview with the filename result, this works for all browsers such that the window launches to http://localhost:8080/docs_for_preview/result but in IE 6 it opens to http://localhost:8080/../docs_for_preview/result that's why the file cannot be found.

How do I fix this?

I will appreciate all the help that I can get.

Thank you very much.

GWT
Hello,

Yes, I have permission to touch other folders outside the deployed app. I was wondering, what do you mean by somePath/../stuff, this is how I "save" to the said folder one level up, but I don't know how to view these files from my system given that when I use GWT.getHostPageBaseURL(), what I get is http://localhost:8080/_____.file, if I use this, the system can't find the files specified, does this mean that i have to put an absolute path instead? because I'm trying to avoid this.

Thanks.

Hello,

I'm using GWT.getHostPageBaseURL() to access a file in my server, right now, what i deploy is the war file containing my folder docsFromUpload.

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\ipres\docsFromUpload

I access the files inside using this:

But the directory changed such that my docsFromUpload is now outside (one level higher) of my deployed war file, may I know how I can still access filename.doc? Using the code above, I can't seem to reach filename.doc in this directory:

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\docsFromUpload

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I am testing my gwt-ext app in browsers, it doesn't show warning in Chrome and in FF but in the status bar of IE (6, 7, and 8), I always have this "Done, but with errors on page" warning. But i cannot find anything wrong with the behavior of the application, it still works fine. when i look at the error message detail, this is what it's saying:

Webpage error details

Message: 'Ext' is undefined
Line: 9
Char: 1
Code: 0
URI: http://xxx.xxx.org:8050/ipres/ipres/js/columntree/ColumnNodeUI.js

can i just supress this warning through my application (I wouldn't want to freak out my users when they see this) or is there something i need to fix with the specified js that shouldn't bring any changes in the application. I'm not sure I want to touch ColumnNodeUI.js since I didn't make any prior changes to it, I just imported the gwt-ext in my app and used it. nothing more.

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Regards,

Chris

hello,

Thank you for all your posts, I have tried using GWT widget, hyperlink but it still behaves the same way. also the href tag is already correct (no white space), but still behaves the same in Chrome. I have isolated that this is the only widget in my application that is not working because my trace says that this is the only place where the code is hanging. I really have to find a way on how to make this hyperlink work for chrome too

Hello,

May i know why some of my gwt codes work well for IE but does not work in Chrome? is there any particular widget that I should know wherein I need to add some special/additional line of code in my gwt program to make it work. right now, I'm looking at some of the possible culprits in my code, looking at:

Whenever i call this in google chrome, my code doesn't work anymore. But of course it may come somewhere else. How can i trace this error through maybe chrome itself?

Thanks!

Thank you!

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am using gwt in development, I need to display time and is using

but when i deployed my application, i am getting different formats, on different browsers, i.e.,

Wednesday, June 29, 2005 15:20:00
Wed, 29 Jun 2005 15:20:00 GMT+0100

I want it to appear in one format over all browsers, that is, Jun 29, 2005. how do i do that? I tried using to GMTString but it's always delayed by one day why is that so?

Thanks.
