I am taking a java course, part II, and I have had incidents were a program I design finally works as intended, then when I go back days later (after I have turned in the assignment, no less) it is no longer working as it was. It has happened on more that two occasions. You can imagine how I feel. I spend many days, long hours working on an assignment, I hit the compile button, then run....it finally works! And then days later when I am reviewing my assignment, for various reasons, it is not working correctly anymore. Any one have any possible explanations?

Special thanks to Mark Vedder for assisting in giving a newbie a shot at one day helping others, cheerio. Igor thanks for the suggestion, and David thanks for the proof.

I am looking foward to many years in programming. After being a fireman for seventeen years I am getting prepared to hang up my firecoat and take on a new career programming...

I have a program for a palindrome. The palindrome engine on line 184 works but disregards issues such as capital letters and spaces. So I tried a different engine on line 193 which uses a stack ( i am not familiar with these). Anyway it does not work and I would like to have a palindrome engine that is more proficient. Any ideas where it is going wrong?

You will need the following about() class

Also could you let me know how to integrate the two classes? I am a beginner and am hesitant to mess with things that work....

Thank You in advance!

Your information helped me solve the problem

Hello

I am designing a simple program where a user can enter a word or phrase and the program determines if it is a palindrome. A palindrome is a word or phrase that is spelled the same both forwards and backwards...

This is the compile error:

Palindrome.java:165: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : class About
location: class Palindrome
new About(this).setVisible(true);

And here is my code:

Appreciate any help....

Thanks for all of your help

....so is there a solution, or do I need to not use an array?

O.K

I think I am on my way. Could you take a look at the following and tell me what you think? I am getting a ';' error, and cannot seem to find it...

Hello again..
I am attempting to design a simple console program that does the following.

A small airline has just purchased a computer for its new automated reservations system. The president has asked you to program the new system in Java. You are to write a program to assign seats on each flight of the airlines only plane (capacity: 10 seats). Your program should display the following menu
of alternatives:

Please type 1 for smoking
Please type 2 for nonsmoking

If the person types 1, then your program should assign a seat in the smoking section (seats 1-5). If the person types 2, then your program should assign a seat in the nonsmoking section (seats 6-10). Your program should then print a boarding pass indication the persons seat number and whether it is in smoking or nonsmoking section of the plane. Use a single subscript array to represent the seating char of the plane. Initialize all the elements of the array to 0 to indicate all seats are empty. As each seat is assigned, set the corresponding elements of the array to 1 to indicate that the seat is no longer available.Your program should, of course, never assign a seat that has already been assigned. When the smoking section is full, your program should ask the person if
it is acceptable to be placed in the nonsmoking section (and vice versa). If yes, then make the appropriate seat assignment. If no, then print the message Next flight leaves in 3 hours

This is what I have so far. It compiles but hangs. I could use some advice as to wether it is possible to get it to work this way or should I go in a completely different direction.
