Hi Ranchers,
Not sure if there is a specific good answer to this question, but have to ask this question - I want to know the best companies to work for in Pune, based on the following criteria (in the descending order of importance) -
- long term career growth
- good work culture & good people
- good money
- onsite opportunities
Not sure if it's possible to get all at one place..
All views / ideas are most welcome...

Swapnil.

Hi Ranchers,
I want some guidance regarding my career.. I have till date around 3.5 years of experience in Java/J2EE technologies. And am currently still working as a team-member... (Was a single point of contact in my earlier project - with one junior reporting to me). So don't have management experience as such. But I want to progress on the managerial track (as that's what seems to be more benefitial than the pure technical track - at least here in India).
The question I have is - how do I achieve it? I also probably want to switch my current job (am starting another thread for that) as it doesn't have growth.. At the same time, I also want to have some onsite exposure (have no onsite till now).. Is it possible and how? And what is the timeframe one should look at to progress the ladder?
Secondly, which is better choice for my this ambition - prodcut based companies or service based?
Your views/inputs are awaited...

Swapnil.

Hi Karthi,
I agree with KJ, Rambo and all other people - personally, I don't think it's a good idea to join a company that doesn't respect your skills and experience..
Secondly, let's consider that we keep the emotions apart - supposing you join them, and the same scenario continues (which is more likely - based on many opinions already expressed in this forum - they have one of the worst work cultures, lots of politics etc.), just think if you'll be able to cope up with this kind of culture. If you have no problems with the people around you, if you can shut yourself from them and just continue to carry on/ concentrate on your work only - then go ahead. Accenture as a brand will definitely help you... (My personal experience about their interview too hasn't been that good - it's one of the worst I have had till date)...
And just another perspective to Zilbu's comment -

and remember years back when a tall guy applied for an announcer in a local radio station, he was rebuked by saying "go n sell apples, ur voice is not good at all", that guy was Amitabh Bachchan.

The guy was rejected at the interview for the radio station and did't join the radio station! Had he got through to the radio station, the world today would have missed a legend called Amitabh Bachchan, to some unknown radio announcer
So, just decide what exactly you want and then finalise about the offer cooly.. All the best

Thanks Kj and Sameer for your inputs

Sameer,
The good thing is that he wasn't asked for any monetory guarantee (like many other consultants)- just two bonds he ahs to sign - one here in India stating that the candidate wil refund the H1B filinf amount to them, in case he doesn't fly on their visa (the visa processing cost to be borne by the company). And the second is after going to NJ - stating that he'll stay with them for a period of 1.5 years. For this also, he doesn't have to provide any monetory guarantee or something like that - just a plain agreement he has been asked to sign. This seems to be really good and a bit professional to me - a fair deal is what I advised him about these...

KJ,
Thanks for the info about some visa processing beign on hold. That's something I'll ask my friend to be careful about.
I was just curious as to how so many consultanting firms operate in this case - I mean when stamping happens, I guess many times the consultants aren't sure about the job/client. But still many are operating - how do they manage this?

Hi KJ,
My friend was informed that they'll be paying him for the first month even if he doesn't get a job. In fact, they say after he goes there, the client interviews will start and within a month max, he'll placed somewhere. (He has no clue what will happen after that if he doesn't get placed in the first month!)

Sameer,
About - What if client rejects (just an assumption) ?
This is what is worrying my friend also. When he raised this doubt, he says that hje was informed that this hasn't happened till date and all the consultants were placed within first 15 days only. (And anyways they'll be apying for first month for sure.)

Jay,
This is exactly what they said - the interviews will start AFTER he goes to NJ. And so he is concerned about the same points as raised by KJ and Sameer...

Further feedback is awaited/welcome...

Thanks,
Swapnil.

Thanks Prashant.
About work nature, I too had heard that they do maintenance/support mostly here@Pune. And they put you into any technology!
I was just curious that it happens (putting into any other technology) even if the job has been advertised specifically for a Java/J2EE post, and the person has been interviewed specifically on Java/J2EE.. But it seems seems to be the norm in many MNCs/big organizations.

Hi Friends,
One of my friends got an offer from AIT Global Inc., NJ, USA. They are offering 50K per annum for a consuting job. There will be interviews by clients after going to USA by the cilients.
Does anybody have any idea about this company? Also, is the package sufficient for a decent stay in NJ?
Any imputs/pointers will be appreciatded...

Guys,
An update here - he has got an offer from Infy Pune as well.. Package wise - L&T infotech is offering more(10-15% more), whereas Infy's CTC is less.. The positions offered are almost same.. Now he is in a dilemma as to what to do... He really wants a long-term onsite opportunity; plus is looking for this switch in a long-term perspective (want to stick to whatever company he chooses, for long).
Could you please advise here?
KJ, Manish - your opinions will be highly appreciated..

Thanks,
Swapnil.

Hi,
Thanks toall for the valuable inputs. So I feel, the work culture is a major drawback there. But apart from that, it seems to be goos - with onsite opportunities as well, and work also seem to be ok, right?
Any comments?
