Yes, its true scwcd has got more topics to cover then the scbcd...and from my personal opinion i find scwcd is more intersting then scbcd....
I personaly gained a lot in taking the scwcd exam...which i apply in my projects....

To cover the J2EE i think it would be better to go in steps...SCJP--->SCWCD-->
SCBCD--->SCEA...

And also depends on what area your currently working...its better to be master in wat your doing then looking at other things(nothing wrong)...

Sham,
As Gregg said ur passing null value to the first parameter of the JOptionPane...
below is simple static method from my util class...which i use for the model dialog...on any module screens which basically extends the JPanel.

public static Frame findParentFrame(JPanel pan)
{
Component c = pan.getParent();
while(true)
{
if(c instanceof Frame)
return (Frame)c;
c = c.getParent();
}
}

Any update on legal copy of PDF version!!!

William,
I can think of three solutions for your problem in high level, based on what you described.
Multiple request (A) coming in and only 1-3 or 1-n (B) thread to process the request and do validation to external DB (3-connection max) and then pass it to C (singleton) for further processing

1.MOM (message oriented middleware) like IBM MQ (cost involved in setting up)
If data is critical, data recovery, processing time should be less and robustness of app. You need to have 2 Qs for doing your task
2.Database: - mechanism is similar to above, but involves in db connection and purging of the processed datadefining the fields or having one field to hold the request datathere is some limitation on itlike 2 Qs you need to table
3.In memory and file storage (for data recovery purpose). I used this methodology to my current project (and other 2 in my previous projects).
I used Stack as in memory storagewith max of 15 msgs and rest is written in file with time stamp to process in ordereven stack msg is stored in file in different folderfor data recovery in case of system crashHandling of this data is done when the system restarts
Like B in your systemI have a thread job which process the stack msg first, then data from fileeach msg is independent of other in my case. thread (B) only does its job if there is msg in stack or file to be processed else it sleeps.
After every successful processing B moves the data to processed folder
I dont have C processing objectbut you can replicate the in-memory for C or just put every thing in file and let C do its job from file (time consuming then in memory)

If MQ is available then go for itand the other 2 depends on the system requirement if the data is going to be consistent or not going to change very often the DB is good(response will be slow then in memory processing) but persistence wise its good then in-memory and file storage.

Comments welcome.

Important question....so remember
only HttpSessionActivationListener and HttpSessionBindingListener are not configured in web.xml....and ther rest of listener should be configured in web.xml....

SCJP 1.4

Happy to announce!!! I passed the SCWCD 1.4 exam (84%) today it took 3 weeks with minimum of 4 5 hours of preparation every day
Following for the few suggestion for future SCWCD exam takers
1.Concentrate on EL, how to use .,[] operator, how to use to use in custom tags and there implicit objects
2.JSTL 1.1 core tags, conditional and URL tags download the JSTL 1.1 spec from sun
3.J2EE patterns -(take notes from prentic Core j2ee patterns best practices&design 2nd edition for those 5 patterns...) you will for sure able to answer the questionsits kind of straight forward
4.Servlets 2.4 spec from sun. Concentrate on listener class and there events. Requestdispatcher, illeagalstateException condition
5.JSP2.0 spec from sun. Implicit object, syntax and some core API like pageContext
6.Simple /classic tags life cycle and there method return status value

Some thing new was ejb-env deployment tagsso browse through the ejb deployment tagsand be strong in deployment syntax

Cheers,
