FYI, this code throws a NullPointerException if the someFunction() returns null.
I have been developing J2EE web applications with Struts for awhile. Over the last two months I was playing with Struts2. Two days ago I came across Click and ThinWire. And I was blown away by what I saw. The idea of developing the view in Java seems very attractive.

Has anyone done any development using Click or ThinWire? Could you tell me what you liked and not liked about these web frameworks? I am seriously considering moving away from Struts or Struts2 to ThinWire.

I want to develop an application for smartphones. The business domain information will be persisted on MySQL Internet server. Some synchronization and caching mechanism may be developed on the client side to deal with wireless connectivity issues. I am considering using XML Web Services for interfacing data from front-end server to client smartphones. I can probably do all the back-end (DB, web services) using Java. However, I have 0 (zero) experience with mobile apps development. And I have the following questions:

What is best technology to use to develop the view and presentation layer?Should I use Microsoft Windows Mobile development tools or J2ME? Is there enough support (JVM) for J2ME on current and upcoming PDAs and smartphones?

I think interviews should be focused on one's prior project experience and what he/she did at those projects. Then, ask a technical question here and there. Not the other way around.

Rohan, thank you for your response. Based on my profile + resume available on-line at http://www.rubens-gomes.com/ what do you think my chances are of landing a job in the US right now? Should I wait a few more months to get more certifications and experience? In your opinion, how do I compare against other developers in the US job market?

Sounds interesting. I also have an approved/stamped H1B right now (year quota 2005). I worked as a developer in the US from 1995-2000 -- In addition, I attended undergraduate/graduate school at KU (Univ. of Kansas) from 1988-1995. I moved back to Brazil in nov. 2000. And right now, I am working as a software developer in the country. However, I think about moving back to the US. But I am now married and have one 4 year old son (lovely family) who depends on my income. My main concern is job stability. Could you give us some further details on the job market in the US these days? How about typical consulting rates for a senior developer? Which area of the country can project/contract be found one after the other without having to relocate? Also, should I wait a couple of months to be sure the market is stable? And get more Java certifications (now only have SCJP). Please, I would like to hear any other useful information you could provide to someone in similar situation as the one you were in before.

Thank you,

Actally, I was going to join the NETSMART project. Then left Fujitsu to pursue a venture Internet business in Florida -- which btw was the worst decision I made in my life.

What is the relationship between LPA and rupees?

I see some Indian yearly salary figures here. How much would that be in US dollars? Also, I hear that people are leaving the States and going back to India. Does that mean that the job market in the US is bad? Please, let me know. I am Brazilian citizen. I also have BS in CoE + MS in EE degrees from the United States. I returned to Brazil to work in management after 7 years of software development experience in the US. My company went thru some re-orgs, and my position was laid off. I went back to software development. But I am thinking about returning to the United States, as the salary pay for developers in Brazil is not worth.

Sorry, I keep seeing LPA on this site. Can someone please let me know what LPA means? What does it stand for? Is that salary per year or per month? Is that the Indian currency? How much does that map to US dollars (US $) nowadays?

Thanks.

I participated in the development of Fujitsu FETEX-150 ATM broadband EMS (element management system) in Raleigh, North Carolina back in 1998-2000. We used JSP/Servlet/JavaScript (front-end), EJB session beans (Model + transaction components) to handle servlet requests, and EJB entity beans for persistent + transaction. From the server code, we accessed CORBA services to communicate with the switches itself.

I am currently in Brazil working in a off-shore project involving Java, Swing, JSP, Struts, Oracle, UNIX. I have an approved H1-B visa sponsored by a Software Consulting company from Dallas, TX.

I am planning to interview for opportunities in the upcoming future. And I am wondering if someone could shed some light on the software development market in the US these days. How is the market for Software Engineers, C++/Java/Developers? What technologies are hot? Are companies hiring or contracting? What skills should I be concentrating on to get a job in the US? What is expected salary/rate? I am Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 (96%), have about 12 years total experience with software development (C/C++, Java, Visual Basic, Perl, PHP, Oracle PL/SQL). Lately, I have been working with Java (J2EE JSP/Servlets/Struts). I am also studying J2EE Web Services.

Thank you.

I would like to receive real practical data -- from actual consultants or who know consultants in those areas. Things like salary.monster or other internet sites are no good. Also, I am on a H1-B visa working for a consulting company. Thanks.

Based on my professional/academic profile at www.rubens-gomes.com, what hourly rate can I ask for in NYC? How about other regions in the US? (Dallas, Atlanta, CA, DC)?

How is the consulting market for NYC? What is the average rate for a sr. software developer with 10+ years experience?

Thanks.
