Hello Everyone!

I live in San Francisco Bay Area (CA) and currently have permanent job. However with mergers, acquisitions looming all around its tough be permanent in permanent job. Plus one gets stuck with same project maintenance without much happening for years, effectively it kills your appetite for new skills.

I have come to belief that its much better to be with consultant, software service provider than permanent employee of real client.

However on the downside comes the pay, the software services companies pay real bottom line (~60k) compared to the permanent positions (~80k)

I wanted to know your personal experience, liking for particular consulting, software services organization.

I would appreciate if you can recommend to someone you know, you have experience with (consultants gets really creepy sometimes, IMO). Based on type of consultant, software services organization you guys might get referrer bonus (but that's not point here )

well, about me, I have 5 years experience (all)in Java, J2EE technologies, web/enterprise frameworks, D/B.

I am Sun Certified Java 2 Programmer and Sun Certified Java Architect (part 1/3) certifications.

I have H1B till 2008.

H4 workers can't work in US (legally). But there are options around like working in indian stores, doing baby sitting, teaching, taking classes etc, check out the article at www.IndianFamilyFriends.com

I have been working on SWING front-end application for last 3 years. Its for a options exchange and it has been great experience. I think it has pretty good market scope if not great.

Hows weather there? Hot, cold?
Hows housing and other general prices compared to Bay Area

any help in this is appriciated!

Thats not the point. I bet google won't even do it.

But then what their APIs listed on open source projects section, they are not open source

okay, this is my personal opinion, but I feel google is misusing the europhia around open source for spreading itself.

Does making APIs available means supporting open source? No. Google is encouraging people to write code around their API. Google not making its technology open!

There is gread application written around Google maps API, author says he/she will release code soon? its not released yet, but its still being called open source? Why?
