Can anyone tell me the differene between the two portal versions 4.0 and 8.1.
I have worked on 4.0 but not on 8.1, so how much time will I take to learn 8.1?What are the new features added to 8.1?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the difference between a "logical name" like "java:/comp/env/ejb/Fibo" and a jndi name like onl "FiboBean".
I can use both of of them as inputs to InitialContext constructor, but what is the difference?
I am new to ejb, so this might be a stupid question, but would appreciate any explanations.. .
Thanks in advance,
Shetal

Hi,
I have made a session ejb, put it in a jar along with its ejb-jar.xml and jboss.xml.I have copied this jar to jboss/server/default/deploy location.
Now I have a client class, using which I am trying to invoke a method on the above deployed ejb.This client class is located outside jboss server, in some other folder say C:/MyStore on my machine.
I run the client program as a java application to access the bean class methods, but I get the following exception:

javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: StoreAccessBean not bound

My ejb-jar.xml has the entry :
___________________________________________________________________________

<ejb-jar>
<enterprise-beans>
<session>
<ejb-name>StoreAccess</ejb-name>
<home>au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccessHome</home>
<remote>au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccess</remote>
<local>au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccessLocal</local>
<local-home>au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccessLocalHome</local-home>
<ejb-class>au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccessSession</ejb-class>
<session-type>Stateless</session-type>
<transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>
</session>
</enterprise-beans>
</ejb-jar>
___________________________________________________________________________

and jboss.xml has the entry

<jboss>

<enterprise-beans>

<session>
<ejb-name>StoreAccess</ejb-name>
<jndi-name>StoreAccessBean</jndi-name>
<local-jndi-name>StoreAccessLocal</local-jndi-name>
</session>

</enterprise-beans>

<resource-managers>
</resource-managers>

</jboss>
___________________________________________________________________________

In my client class i am saying,
__________________________________________________________________________

Object o = ctx.lookup(au.com.tusc.session.StoreAccessHome.JNDI_NAME);

where, JNDI_NAME = "StoreAccessBean";

Can anyone help me in solving out the above error.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which book is meant by HFSJ?

And if I plan to buy just one book for preparing for the SCWCD certification, which one should it be?

SCJP1.4(96%)
Hi Ravi,
As regards deciding which exam to write, its a matter of personal preference.Right now as 1.5 is quite new, there are not much good mock tests and reference material available as for 1.4.So I personally felt that its more important to score well than to just pass the exam.1.5 being comparitively new, it was quite difficult to do so.Besides still there are lot of s/w applications exisiting in 1.4, so getting a certification in 1.4 will be fine.It will take a while for 1.5 to really come up.I feel its better to give first level (1.4), and then quickly go for higher level of certifications in Java that culd do a better value addition.

As regards the mock tests, I stuck to Dans study guide 1 for the first level of learning.Of course after completing K&B twice.
Then started with mock tests.Based on everyone`s review about mock tests, I jotted down all the mock tests that I would be giving.
I made a document like "Things to Remember" and after every mock exam listed down the new learnings/mistakes in it.That helped me a lot.By the end that document had some 130 points to remember.. .
I have listed all the mock exams I gave in my first mail.
I got links to all the above mock exams from javaranch mock exam list.
The link is
mock list Link on javaranch
Also u can refer
Mock exam list 2
for a list of mock exams.Try to do all the free mock exams.

Also Jdiscuss gives the difficulty level of various mocks:
Mock exam comparision on jdiscuss
On jdiscuss itself you can also see a score comparision between mock exams and actual exam.

Last but not the least, donot forget to keep a regular eye on Javaranch forum, it solves most of your doudts and concepts!!

All the best!!

Let me know if you need any other help!!

God Bless You!!

Hi,

I passed SCJP1.4 with 96% this weekend...

When I started my preparation I was just aiming at just clearing the exam, but this forum gave me the guidance and the confidence to score much high!!

I would really like to thank Javaranch forum!!

I referred K&B and kept a regular eye on JavaRanch discussion forum.
I also referred Dan`s Study Guide 1.Did all the practice test in it.
Then started with mock up exams, like Jxam, Bill Brodgen, Java Coding.net, JQPlus, A K Gupta mock test, Majji`s Mock test, java certificate mock exams, Poddar`s mock exams, Marcus Green(saved them for the last week).

Though the actual exam was quite simple as compared to these mockup exams, but giving all these exams, gave me lot of confidence and I think just clearing the exam should not be the aim, but a thorough understanding of the subject is lot more important.

Thanks again to all the ranchers..

Consider the following statement from K&B -
What statements are true about properly overridden hashCode() and equals() methods?
For the above question, one of the following statement is given as the correct answer.
equals() can be true even if it`s comparing different objects.

Can anyone explain how can equals() return true if its comparing different objects??
Hi,
I have a doudt regarding char type variables intialization, i.e. how r the following declarations valid?

e.g
char c = '\061';
char c = '\61';

what does the escape character '\' signify?
Thanxs a lot for all the amazing replies.. .
Will keep all of them in mind..
One more thing my appointment duration is 2hrs 15 min..and as far as I know the exam is for 2 hrs..why r those xtra 15 min for?
Also they have asked to carry 2 ID cards (for identification).If one of them is NOT a photo id, will it do?
