Hi,

Can somebody tell me what is the job market like, in Europe for Java professionals, with around 6yrs of experience.
What are the specific skill sets usually sought after there.

Also, if I want to get into a company in Europe and plan to work there for a couple of years, whats the usual process like -- like for UK, its via HSMP visa.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I have 6+ yrs of experience in java and related technologies.

I am comfortably placed in my current job.
I could say that I have solid skills and demonstrated this throughout my experience, and have been lucky not just to work on project related stuff, but did some hard core experimenting on some open source technologies and frameworks.

I am not looking for a job right away, but am planning to work in European country for an year or two, since I want to experience the place, and visit all the places in Europe during the years of my stay.

Can someone tell me what is the way that I could get a decent job in european countries (for UK, which I know means HSMP), and a lon-term one at that.

I am really not interested in US, hence am looking forward to get some useful responses to this post !

Thanks a lot in advance !!

Hi Ravi,

I have, in fact, tweaked into the source code of and was successful in using the OpenOffice2.1 framework API to convert RTF/Word etc. documents into a pdf document on the fly..
It provides for a proper-formatting and conversion from any of the readalbe formats like text, word-docs etc into pdf without using acrobat reader.

You may as well try the same.

Let me know if you need further help.

Regards,
Moto.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. No, there is no proxy configured at my machine.

Thats the reason Ive mentioned that other applications like portals can be accessed using machine name/ip address in the url.

Please let me know if there are anywhere else I'm doing wrong.

Thanks

Hi ,

I have developed a webservice and hosted it on WebSphere AppServerr6.0, I have used an IDE (Rational App Developer) to create the webservice and wsdl's. The endpoint thats created for the webservice looks something like :

http://localhost:4400/ProjectSource/services/projectsourceservicecall

This webservice is running fine when I put in the above url in the browser and can see its working. The webservice is running on my machine itself.

The problem I am facing is that if I replace the 'localhost' in the endpoint with the name of my machine name or ipaddress, I get to see a 'Page Cannot be Displayed' error.
I really dont see any difference in both endpoints.

I am sure that the network is able to recognize the machine name/ipaddress because I can test other applications(NOT WEBSERVICES) by using the machine name/ipaddress instead of the localhost.

For ex, when I have my websphere portal server runnign, I can type in
http://mymachineIpAddress:9081/wps/portal (this is the homepage for my portal launched on my macine) and its working.

Please suggest me where I am going wrong.

Your earliest solutions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi all,

I am a Java sw engineer with 2 yrs 9 months exp...
I recently go a job offer to work in kuwait. The firm is a Middle-East retail store chain giant, and I would be working on in-house projects for them.
I am offered 550 Kuwaiti Dinars pm. and that includes 20% accomodation and 10% travelling... Without taxes and no bond.
Going by calc, I realised that I would get about 385 KuwaitiDinars in hand, after the accomodation and travrelling..

Can u guy tellme if this is a good offer for kuwait?will 110 kuwait dinars be sufficient for accomodation and 55 kdoinars for to-fro trvel to office in SAHAD city affordable?

What abt the living?(food & other expenses) there?

anyone with info,pls suggest...
pls giveme any links if possible..

Hi Mohammad,

Thats a nice idea of yours.

If I were you, firstly what I will do is
a)I would start looking into sites like rentacoder.com or hireafreelancer.com where I can bid for and get some projects.
Let me tell you that payment is guaranteed at these sites if you finish the projects.

Next,
b)
I would, in the meanwhile make up my own like-minded community of freelancers/to-be-entrepereneurs thr' sites like javaranch or the above sites' (u may agree that social networking is very important to gain new ideas while starting new things...)
c)
I do not know much abotut google ads pay you, but its definitely possible to make money.Just do proper use of google

To be honest, I am interested in doing the same thing as what you are planning.I have a couple of very innovative ideas, but they need more than 1 person to take shape, if you are really enthu about working togetther and if we are in constant touch and we get along well in this matter, we can work together as well...

Please send a private message if you would like to talk to me...
All the best!!

Thanks,
Moto.

Hi Sai Surya,

Ive seen your answer to one of my posts where I asked advice about my situation of leaving a company without a releiving letter.

Its nice that you got an offer in S.Korea, can you please tell me how you landed in the job? I worked previously in the far east, beleive that am tech. good, so may be able to convince the firm that I am suitable.

It would be nice of you if you can give me the contact info etc of either you or the company that gave you the offer.

Even if you find any problem in giving me the info, I thank you for the good advice you gave me.

Thanks,
Moto.

Hi ,

First, many thanks Badari and Vibhav for your replies and advice.

I understand that this is a situation which is unwanted in one's career, but even if I ask the company where I moved out from, I'm sure they will not give me a letter, and even if so, will include that I am terminated kind of remarks.

I have asked some job consultants on this whether I need to skip my entire 4 months of experience in the last firm while putting in my applications, but they advised me to include this experience but to explain in the HR rounds of the situation where I had to leave. I am now ready to even take up a contract position(Ultimatley,I beleive its the tech. skills that matters..)

As far as background check is concerned, I know that big companies like IBM do it strictly, thats where I badly need you guys' advice.
Please tell me how I can convince diplomatically in the HR round that I had to leave(i mentioned the reason in my first post), without looking as if I am blaming the prev. manager etc...

Just hoping that everything is happening for the good for me...(now thats philosphy/sentiment )...

Your valuable advice is very much needed..

Thanks,
Moto.
