A JavaDoc:javax.sql.rowset.FilteredRowSet object has all the capabilities of a JavaDoc:javax.sql.rowset.WebRowSet object (and
therefore also of JavaDoc:javax.sql.rowset.CachedRowSet) plus the following:

It can apply filtering criteria so that only selected data is visible. This is equivalent to executing a query on a RowS'''et object without having to use a query language or connecting to a data source.

These classes are basically disconnected RowSets and are typically JavaBeans.
they differ from JavaDoc:java.sql.ResultSet because it does not maintain the connection and so
are much more lightweight than ResultSet objects.
