i graduated from washington university in st. louis in 1990, with a degree in theatre. after spending a few years as a bookstore clerk, a high school math teacher, and an airline reservation agent, i finally settled in as a programmer in 1999, and earned my scjp certificate a few years later.

i live in a small suburb in st. louis county, missouri, just a few miles from where i grew up. i live with my wife Stacey, and my daughter Olivia, whom we adopted from China in 2005. i am probably the only person who can directly thank the JavaRanch for having a child - you can read about much of my adoption journey in meaningless drivel. when i have time, i'll find the specific thread and edit it into this page.
